N-Methylephedrine, its salts, optical isomers, and salts of optical isomers are in FDA list of Exempt chemical mixtures.

Oxolamine under brand names Symphocal, Perebron is used in some countries as a cough suppressant for the treatment of pharyngitis, tracheitis, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, pertussis. Oxolamine possesses anti-inflammatory activity, which causes a reduction in the irritation of the nervous receptors of the respiratory tract.

Thebacon (dihydrocodeinone enol acetate, trade name Acedicon) is semisynthetic opioid analgetic and antitussive compound. Boehringer-Ingelheim merketed Acedicon for the treatment of cough. Thebacon is a Schedule I drug, that has not got approved use in US.

Fominoben is a medication indicated for the treatment of dry cough. The drug was marketed under the name Noleptan, however, its current status is unknown and supposed to be "discontinued".

Benproperine (Cofrel) is a cough suppressant. It is used for symptomatic relief of cough. Cofrel is 2-4 times as potent as codeine in suppressing cough in animals. It acts peripherally by blocking afferent sensory nerve impulses originating from receptors in the lungs and pleura.
