XK-469 (2-[4-(7-chloro-2-quinoxalinyloxy)phenoxy]-propionic acid) is a novel synthetic quinoxaline phenoxypropionic acid derivative. The R-isomer of XK-469 was approximately twice as effective as the S-isomer of XK-469R. R( )-isomers induce reversible protein DNA crosslinks in mammalian cells. It acts as a selective topoisomerase IIβ inhibitor. A phase I study was performed to determine the safety and pharmacokinetics of XK-469, (R)- in patients with various neoplasms.

Sodium aceneuramate is a sodium salt of aceneuramic acid (sialic acid). It is an effective inhalant expectorant. Inhalation of sodium aceneuramate repaired inflammation in the airway, and caused bronchitic rabbits to produce sputa with a low viscosity, similar to normal air-way secretions. Sodium aceneuramate protected the mucociliary transport impaired bycigarette smoke in a dose-dependent manner. The results suggest that sodium aceneuramate may participate in the defense mechanism in the airway against irritant gases. Sodium aceneuramate inhibited bronchial anaphylaxis and the release of histamine into bronchoalveolar lavages. Sodium aceneuramate has an action which elevates the viscoelasticity of secretions in the respiratory tract.

Malethamer is the generic name of a new synthetic hydrocarbon copolymer with extraordinary water-binding properties, being able to absorb 200 times its weight of water. It is physically and chemically binds poliovirus 1 and certain bacterial enterotoxins. Ethylene-maleic anhydride copolymers and their derivatives have come to be considered for a number of applications generally involving the formation of insoluble complexes with proteins and viruses. The copolymer is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and is pharmacologically inert. Malethamer, because of its water absorbing quality, is an effective compound for the symptomatic control of diarrhea, both organic and functional.

Fluoroacetic acid F-18 (18F-Fluoroacetate,18F-FAC) is an analog of acetate with a longer radioactive half-life (18F=110 min). Fluoroacetic acid F-18 was under investigation as a PET imaging agent. 18F-FAC was considered a promising alternative to 11C-ACE for positron tomographic imaging of prostate cancer, and possibly of other neoplasms with relatively low glucose use.

D-aspartic acid is an essential amino acid and a key ingredient in various testosterone boosting anti-estrogen supplements. D-aspartic acid is not used to build proteins; instead, it plays a role in making and releasing hormones in the body. It is an endogenous NMDA receptor agonist with similar activity to the L-isomer. D-aspartic acid also enhances the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and testosterone. This action is mediated in the pituitary by cGMP and in the testis by cAMP, which acts as the second messengers in the signal transduction in the pituitary and testes respectively. The pituitary and testis possess a D-Aspartate racemase, which provides the necessary production of this isomer.
