Ursolic acid is a natural terpene compond found in a wide variety of plants but most well known for being in apple peels. Ursolic acid has a series of biological effects such as sedative, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-diabetic, antiulcer, antitumor etc. Ursolic acid has been shown to target multiple proinflammatory transcription factors, cell cycle proteins, growth factors, kinases, cytokines, chemokines, adhesion molecules, and inflammatory enzymes.
Evidences suggest that ursolic acid could be used as a potential candidate to develop a comprehensive competent strategy towards the treatment and prevention of health disorders.
Although the science is preliminary, it seems to be able to reduce fat accumulation and increase muscle mass gain when in a fed state, and to induce fat burning and preserve muscle mass when in a fasted state.

Domperidone is a peripherally selective D2 receptor antagonist. It acts as an antiemetic and a prokinetic agent through its effects on the chemoreceptor trigger zone and motor function of the stomach and small intestine. Domperidone was not approved in USA due to risks of cardiac arrhythmias, cardiac arrest, and sudden death, but is available in other countries. However, FDA allows access to Domperidone through an expanded access investigational new drug application (IND) to patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease with upper GI symptoms, gastroparesis, and chronic constipation. As an “off-label” use, domperidone is prescribed to breastfeeding women to enhance their milk production.

O-Cymen-5-OL is an antifungal preservative used in cosmetics and beauty products to prevent harmful bacteria from developing and to prolong the shelf-life of formulas. It is part of the Isopropyl Cresols family and is originally developed synthetically in the form of a crystal. O-Cymen-5-OL is also used as a cosmetic biocide, or ingredient that helps to cleanse the skin or to prevent odor by destroying or inhibiting the growth of microorganisms, according to research. O-Cymen-5-OL is approved by the FDA for use as a direct and indirect food additive and has been approved by the CIR for use in cosmetics up to .5% concentration. However, in the European Union, it is only approved for use up to .1%. Studies in Japan, some dating back to 1956, found O-Cymen-5-OL to be neurotoxic in animals and have led to heavier restrictions on its use in cosmetics there. O-Cymen-5-OL (Dekasol BL) is used in oral care, to fight periodontal disease.

Decoquinate is a quinolone derivative that is used in the control of coccidiosis in domestic animals. Decoquinate treats and prevents coccidiosis in chickens, cattle, goats, sheep, etc. Decoquinate acts on sporozoites development and prevents their penetration of the gut epithelium. Decoquinate inhibits mitochondrial respiration and electron transport in Eimeria.

Hydroxytyrosol is an important phenolic compound obtained from olive oil. Hydroxytyrosol possesses anti-inflammatory properties and has the capacity to inhibit cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase enzymes. Hydroxytyrosol is a powerful antioxidant due to its protective function in cells. Hydroxytyrosol protects the cardiovascular system, avoiding oxidation of LDL cholesterol, maintaining normal blood HDL cholesterol concentrations and thus preventing atherosclerosis. Hydroxytyrosol protects brain cells from lipid peroxidation because it easy penetrates through the blood-brain barrier. Thus, the compound can be used in the disease treatment of Alzheimer or Parkinson. In addition, the compound also helps to prevent osteoporosis because its consumption has positive effects on the formation and growth of bones. Hydroxytyrosol is under investigation phase II clinical trials for breast cancer women to evaluate its effect on mammographic density. The recently published article has shown hydroxytyrosol could prevent obesity and insulin resistance by altering the composition of the intestinal microbiota and improving the integrity of the intestinal wall.
