Zeaxanthin is one of the most common carotenoid alcohols found in nature. It is synthesized in plants and some micro-organisms. Lutein and Zeaxanthin are found in the macula of the human retina, as well as the human crystalline lens. They play a role in protection against age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) and cataract formation. The antioxidant properties of lutein and zeaxanthin together with ocular antioxidants (selenium, zinc, copper, vitamin A, C, E, etc.) inhibit free radical damage caused by light and oxygen. Zeaxanthin supplements are typically taken on the supposition of supporting eye health. It is is Generally Recognized As Safe by FDA.

Glucuronic acid is a sugar acid that was first identified in urine. It is an intermediate metabolite of the uronic acid pathway. Moreover, glucuronic acid is involved in detoxification of certain drugs and toxins by conjugating with them and forming glucuronides. Glucuronic acid has been found to cause an increase in TLR4-dependent reporter protein expression in a cell line transfected with TLR4 and associated co-signaling molecules, and can cause TLR4-dependent pain in humans.

Methylinositol is a natural product in the family of inositols. It is found in many foods as well as pine tree bark. Methylinositol is found naturally in many foods and is commercially available as an approved food supplement. Methylinositol can mediate insulin action to improve glycemic control and insulin sensitivity in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially in patients with insulin resistance. It plays a positive role in regulating insulin-mediated glucose uptake in the liver through translocation and activation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. The compound also modulates gamma-secretase to reduce A-betta production while sparing cleavage of the gamma-secretase substrate Notch. Methylinositol improves cognitive function and memory deficits in preclinical models of Alzheimer's disease (AD) neuropathology. Methylinositol was will tolerated in the population of AD subjects of varying age and severity. No serious adverse effects were detected in clinical trials. Many plant-derived compounds have excellent therapeutic potential against various human ailments. It was shown, that methylinositol mitigates tumor growth by modulating interleukins and hormones and induces apoptosis in rat breast carcinogenesis through inhibition of NF-κB.

Stevioside is an ent-kaurene type diterpenoid glycoside isolated
from leaves of Stevia rebaudiana (Bertoni) Bertoni, a
perennial herb of the asteraceae (compositae) family.
Stevioside and related compounds are responsible for the
sweet taste of Stevia leaves. Stevioside is an intense sweetener and
the extract of its source (S. rebaudiana) finds extensive use in
countries like Japan, China, Russia, Korea, Paraguay,
Argentina, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand,
South America, and others, to sweeten local teas, medicines,
food, and beverages. Stevia leaves are also in use
for their medicinal benefits in hypertension, obesity, topical
dressing for wounds, and other skin disorders. Oral stevioside is not taken up by the human body (or
the uptake is extremely low) and none of the digestive
enzymes from the gastro-intestinal tract of different animals
and human body are able to degrade stevioside into steviol. A number of studies have suggested that, beside sweetness, stevioside along with related compounds, which include rebaudioside A, steviol and isosteviol may also offer therapeutic benefits, as they have anti-hyperglycemic, anti-hypertensive, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, anti-diarrheal, diuretic, and immunomodulatory actions.

Icariin is a naturally occurring compound isolatable from several plant species within the genus Epimedium which is mostly endemic to China. Plant extracts containing icarrin have been used in traditional Chinese medicine as aphrodisiacs and to treat erectile dysfunction. Icariin has been investigated in humans as a treatment method for bipolar disorder and alcohol or cocaine abuse (Phase III). For the treatment of impotence, icariin has been shown to be a weak PDE5 inhibitor capable of enhancing the production of nitric oxide. Also related to PDE5 activity icarrin has been investigated as a potential treatment in mouse models of Alzheimer's disease. Icariin is sold worldwide as an over-the-counter medication for sexual performance, athletic performance, and other health benefits (it improves memory function, protects from osteoporosis, etc).

Baicalin is a flavonoid compound with anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activity extracted from Scutellarua rivularis. Limited distribution data suggest that baicalin reached several sites such as the brain, eye lens, thymus, etc. Metabolism data suggest the rapid conversion of baicalin to baicalein. Baicalin has the potential to be used in novel anti-cancer therapeutic formulations for treatment of ovarian cancer and other cancers. Baicalin markedly inhibits replication of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) in a concentration-dependent manner in normal peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) stimulated with phytohemagglutinin (PHA) in vitro. The preventive medication of baicalin shows a protective effect on C57 BL mouse with Parkinson's disease induced by 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1, 2, 3, 6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP).

Gamma-cyclodextrin is cycloamylose composed of eight alpha-(1-4) linked D-glucopyranose units and is formed by bacterial digestion of starch. Gamma-cyclodextrin is a hydrophilic molecule that does not readily permeate biological membranes and is rapidly digested by bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. In humans, it is metabolized by α-amylase that is found in, for example, saliva, bile fluid, and tears. Gamma-cyclodextrin is generally recognized as safe by the FDA. It is used in bread spreads, frozen dairy desserts, ready-to-eat dairy desserts, desserts prepared from dry mixes, fruit fillings, cheese, and cream fillings, and chewing gum as a stabilizer, emulsifier, carrier and formulation aid at varying levels.
