2-Methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one hydrochloride is an isothiazolinone based biocide and preservative used in personal care products. 2-Methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one is also used for controlling microbial growth in water-containing solution. It is used to study the effects of tyrosine phosphorylation on focal adhesion kinase (FAK) activity in the development of neural axons and dendrites. 2-Methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one hydrochloride (Methylisothiazolinone hydrochloride) is a common preservative used in industrial products, owing to its strong biocide effect. Contact allergy to Methylisothiazolinone hydrochloride has been reported in different occupations, including mechanics, hairdressers and healthcare workers.

Benzododecinium, a quaternary ammonium compound, is an antiseptic agent and disinfectant. Benzododecinium is used as preservative in different pharmaceutical formulations. Thus, the dispenser of Timoptol-LA, used for the treatment of patients with ocular hypertension, contains benzododecinium bromide as a preservative. It is used as preservative and the corneal permeability enhancer in formulation. Benzododecinium is effective against gram-positive microbes.

Mecetronium etilsulfate (MES) is a detergent and belongs to the group of surface-active ingredients. MES along with propan-2-ol and propan-1-ol is an ingredient of rub-in hand disinfectants. The antimicrobial contribution of MES in hand rubs is questionable. MES locks on the outermost layer of the skin (stratum corneum) for sustained bacterial reduction as long as 3 to 5 hours.

Noxythiolin is an antimicrobial agent. It can be used for irrigation procedures with noxythiolin solution to reduce the risk of sepsis in patients undergoing percutaneous drainage procedures. It seems mechanism of action is based on ability of noxythiolin to decompose in solution to liberate most of its formaldehyde.

Bisdequalinium (also known as R-199, trade name Solvidont) is an antibacterial agent for endodontic use. Bisdequalinium was available in three dispensing forms: an irrigation solution, a working solution, and a medication paste. They contained 0.125 %, 0.5 %, and 0.48 % Bisdequalinium respectively. The low cytotoxicity and high antimicrobial effects, detergent, and lubricating and chelating properties, all claimed in the manufacturer's brochure, make this material an appropriate candidate for clinical endodontic use.
