5-Methoxytryptamine (aka 5-MT, mexamine) is a tryptamine derivative closely related to the neurotransmitters serotonin and melatonin. 5-MT is produced endogenously at low levels; it is biosynthesized by deacetylation of melatonin in the pineal gland. 5-MT acts as a full agonist at the 5-HT1, 5-HT2, 5-HT4, 5-HT6, and 5-HT7 receptors. It is often used as a chemical probe in the study of serotonin receptors, but it has also been used in a clinical trial to mitigate the anemic effects of cisplatin chemotherapy.

Fluorine is a chemical element with symbol F and atomic number 9. Fluorine is the lightest of the halogens, a group of compounds including chloride, bromine, iodine and astatine. Under standard conditions, it exists as a highly toxic pale yellow diatomic gas. Fluorine is the most electronegative element, making it extremely reactive. It reacts with nearly all other elements, except for helium and neon. Fluorine is a vital element in the nuclear energy industry, has been used in commercial applications, such as refrigeration, and was used to make chemical weapons. Fluorine-containing drugs are used in medicine as anesthetics, antibiotics, anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory agents, psychopharmaceuticals, and in many other applications.

Chlorpyrifos-methyl is a broad-spectrum organophosphorous insecticide and potential toxic pollutant widely used in agriculture and effective against a wide range of insect pests in commercial importance crops. Chlorpyrifos-methyl have endocrine disruption activity, especially anti-androgenic effects and Chlorpyrifos-methyl administration leads to hepatotoxicity and neurotoxicity in mammals. The fish exposed to chlorpyrifos-methyl exhibited behavioral changes in the form of neurotoxin toxicity: less general activity than control group, loss of equilibrium, erratic swimming and staying motionless at a certain location

Vinfosiltine (also known as S 12363) was developed as a vinca alkaloid derivative. It is known that vinca alkaloids are widely used in the medical treatment of breast cancer. Vinfosiltine participated in the phase II clinical trial to treat the patients with advanced breast cancer. The results have shown that the drug didn’t have significant single-agent activity. As a result, the development of vinfosiltine was discontinued.

Temanogrel (also known as APD791) is an oral small molecule inverse agonist of the serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) receptor with potent activity on platelets and vascular smooth muscle. Temanogrel has been studied in phase I clinical trials in healthy subjects to assess its pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and safety. However, these studies were terminated because of the sponsor’s decision.

Ulimorelin (TZP101) is a small molecule, intravenously administered, ghrelin receptor agonist that is being developed by Lyric Pharmaceuticals. Ulimorelin stimulates intestinal motility, but also reduces blood pressure in rodents and humans and dilates blood vessels. It has been proposed as a treatment for intestinal motility disorders. Ulimorelin has progressed to phase III human clinical trials for the treatment of postoperative ileus.
