Maropitant (trade name Cerenia in the U.S. and other countries), used as maropitant citrate is a neurokinin (NK1) receptor antagonist, which was developed by Zoetis specifically for the treatment of motion sickness and vomiting in dogs. It was approved by the FDA in 2007 for use in dogs, and was later approved for use in cats. Maropitant also has anti-nociceptive (analgesic) properties. Maropitant inhibits binding of substance P to NK-1 receptors. Substance P is an emetogen experimentally, and is found endogenously, along with NK-1 receptors, in the emetic center, chemoreceptor trigger zone, and in vagal afferent nerves in the gastrointestinal tract.

Semduramicin is an ionophore coccidiostat used in the poultry industry as a feed additive. Semduramicin is marketed under the brand name Aviax among others, indicated for the prevention of coccidiosis in poultry, caused by Eimeria tenella, E. acervulina, E. maxima, E. brunetti, E. necatrix, and E. mitis.

Bisoctrizole (Tinosorb M) is a hybrid type sun blocking agent acting as both chemical and physical sunscreen. Bisoctrizole is a hybrid UV absorber, the only organic UV filter produced and microfine organic particles (< 200 nm), like microfine zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Where other organic UV absorbers need to be dissolved in either the oil or water phase, bisoctrizole dissolves poorly in both. It covers both UVA and UVB range. Furthermore, it does not degrade under sunlight and is not significantly absorbed into the skin. It appear highly compatible with many other common sun blocking agents. Overall, it appears to have a good safety profile, even though current safety data are insufficient and long-term human safety studies are lacking. Unlike some other organic sunscreen actives, it shows no estrogenic effects in vitro. Bisoctrizole is not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), but is approved in the EU and other parts of the world. Bisoctrizole is highly stable and also has a stabilizing effect on other UV absorbers, particularly the UVB blocker octyl methoxycinnamate (octinoxate). Bisoctrizole appears to be relatively non-toxic and rarely causes skin irritation. As with many synthetic chemicals, it is unclear whether bisoctrizole may produce low-level skin damage or systemic effects with long-term use. Considering that bisoctrizole is stable, poorly soluble and minimally absorbed by the skin, the risks appear to be low. Still, more research is on bisoctrizole safety is needed.

Pimobendan (INN, or pimobendane; tradenames Vetmedin, Acardi, and Heartmedin) is a veterinary medication. Under the trade name Acardi, it is available for human use in Japan. Usually, this medicine is used to treat acute heart failure and chronic heart failure (mild to moderate in severity). By increasing the calcium ion sensitivity to protein regulating myocardial contraction and also by inhibiting phosphodiesterase (PDE-III) activity, this medicine dilates the blood vessels and improves the symptoms of heart failure such as shortness of breath and difficulty in breathing. Pimobendan is metabolized into an active metabolite (desmethylpimobendan) by the liver. The parent compound, pimobendan, is a potent calcium sensitizer while desmethylpimobendan is a more potent phosphodiesterase III inhibitor. Pimobendan is 90–95% bound to plasma proteins in circulation. This may have implications in patients suffering from low blood protein levels (hypoproteinemia/hypoalbuminemia) and in patients that are on concurrent therapies that are also highly protein bound.

Xylazine is a potent alpha-2 adrenergic agonist. Xylazine in horses and Cervidae may occasionally cause slight muscle tremors, bradycardia with partial A-V heart block and a reduced respiratory rate. Movement in response to sharp auditory stimuli may be observed.
