Clenbuterol is agonist of beta2 adrenergic receptor. In some countries it is used as bronchodilator for treatment of asthma, but is not approved in USA. The drug is abused by bodybuilders and athletes for its ability to increase lean muscle mass and to reduce body fat. In 1998 FDA approved the clenbuterol-based Ventipulmin Syrup as a prescription-only drug for treatment of airway obstruction in horses.

D-mannose is a simple sugar found naturally in fruits such as cranberries and pineapples. Unlike many sugars, it is not metabolised or stored in the liver. Much of it is excreted in the urine, where it interferes with particle attachment and prevents certain kind of bacteria from sticking to the walls and causing infection. Mannose supplement is also indicated for treatment of carbohydrate-deficient glycoprotein syndrome, however clinical trials failed to prove its efficacy.

Dometrizole trisiloxane (Mexoryl XL®) is a lipophilic benzotriazole derivative used in sunscreen products to absorb ultraviolet (UV). It is a broadspectrum UVB/UVA filter with two peaks of absorption: one at 303 nm and the other one at 344 nm. Sunscreens containing dometrizole trisiloxane (Mexoryl XL®) are important in impeding UVA light, potentially reducing many of the characteristics of skin aging and preventing biochemical changes that can lead to nonmelanoma carcinoma. It has not yet been approved in the US, but has been available worldwide for many years in different sunscreens made by L'Oreal.

Hygromycin B is a water-soluble antibiotic purified from the bacterium Streptomyces hydroscopicus. It kills bacteria, fungi and higher eukaryotic cells by inhibiting protein synthesis. It has been reported to interfere with translocation and to cause mistranslation at the 70S ribosome.Hygromycin B is used as a selective agent in molecular genetics experiments on a wide variety of eukaryotic and prokaryotic species. Under the trade name Hygromix, Hygromycin B is used in chickens as an aid in the control of infections of the following intestinal parasites: large roundworms (Ascaris galli), cecal worms (Heterakis gallinae) and capillary worms (Capillaria obsignata) and in Swine as an aid in the control of infections of the following intestinal parasites: large roundworms (Ascaris suis), nodular worms (Oesophagostomum dentatum) and whipworms (Trichuris suis).
Cianidanol is an antioxidant flavonoid, occurring especially in woody plants as both (+)-catechin and (-)-epicatechin (cis) forms. One of the polyphenols present in green tea, (+)-catechin (Cianidanol), has been studied for its effects on animal models of hepatitis, as well as in human clinical studies. Pure (+)-catechin (also known as (+)- cyanidanol-3 – trade name Catergen) has been used to treat hepatitis since 1976. This compound has been shown to be an efficient immune stimulator, promoting activation of macrophages, cytotoxic-T-lymphocytes, and natural killer cells in mice. Several clinical studies demonstrate the effectiveness of (+)-catechin in the treatment of viral hepatitis. Pure (+)-catechin has been found to cause hemolysis in some patients, possibly by the promotion of antibody formation against (+)-catechin, which might cross-react with red blood cells. However, there are no reports in the literature of green tea, green tea extracts, or green tea polyphenols causing this side-effect.
Melengestrol is a steroidal progestin and antineoplastic agent which was never marketed. An acylated derivative, melengestrol acetate, is used as a growth promoter in animals. Melengestrol acetate (MGA) is one of six steroidal hormone growth promoters approved for use in Canada and USA. These products are used to improve growth rate and feed efficiency, as well as to suppress estrus in beef heifers (CFIA 2008). They are not approved for use in any species other than beef cattle meant for slaughter. MGA is the only drug of its kind that is administered in animal feed, and its labelled dose in Canada is 0.4mg per heifer per day (CFIA 2008). A mandatory withdrawal of 2 days before slaughter is applied to any animal that is administered MGA.
Zinc Ascorbate can be used as a dietary supplement and as a nutrient. Zinc is an important antioxidant nutrient. It is necessary for protein synthesis, wound healing, for blood stability, normal tissue function, and aids in the digestion and metabolism of phosphorus. It also governs the contractility of muscles and maintains the body’s alkaline balance. Zinc ascorbate has superoxide dismutase-like activity and in vitro antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Zinc ascorbate may be effective for acne treatment. Zinc ascorbate inhibits the growth of P. acnes (MIC, 640 ug/mL).

Monensin is an antibiotic produced as a byproduct of fermentation by Streptomyces cinnamonensis and belongs to a family of drugs known as polyether antibiotics or ionophores. The drug was approved by FDA for the prevention of coccidiosis in turkeys, chickens, quail, cattle, goats, calves (Coban, Rumensin). The exact mechanism of monesin action is unknown, however there are several hypotesis, which includes the inhibition of K+ transport, the inhibition of the transport of carbohydrates across the host cell membrane, the interruption host cell invasion by sporozoites, etc.
