2-(1-Hexyloxyethyl)-2-devinyl pyropheophorbide-a (HPPH), a chlorin-based photosensitize, is used in photodynamic therapy. It has been shown the therapeutic potential of HPPH in phase II clinical trials for the treatment of esophageal cancer. Besides, HPPH participated in clinical trials in treating patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer that blocks the air passages. However, these studies were terminated.

MK-0941 is selective, allosteric glucokinase activator (GKA) that activates glucokinase (hexokinase subtype IV) with greater selectivity than over different hexokinase isoforms. In chronic oral toxicity studies in animals with MK-0941, cataracts were observed in rats and dogs at drug exposures of 3 and 1.5 times, respectively, the maximum predicted human exposure based on doses planned for further clinical development. No cataracts were observed in either species at drug exposures equal to the maximum predicted human exposure. In patients receiving stable-dose insulin glargine, the glucokinase activator MK-0941 led to improvements in glycemic control that were not sustained. MK-0941 was associated with an increased incidence of hypoglycemia and elevations in triglycerides and blood pressure.

Carmoxirole is a dopamine D2 receptor agonist with limited central activity that modulates sympathetic activation and subsequently reduces pre-load and afterload in animals. It was shown, that carmoxirole induced beneficial effects on hemodynamic and neurohumoral parameters in heart failure. In addition, experimental evidence showed that carmoxirole lowered blood pressure in various models of hypertension mainly or exclusively through inhibition of noradrenaline release from sympathetic nerve endings. That effect of carmoxirole was mediated by presynaptic dopamine receptors with the characteristic that release inhibition was restricted to low rates of sympathetic nerve discharge.

Fialuridine I-124 is an isotope-labeled form of fialuridine, or 1-(2-deoxy-2-fluoro-1-D-arabinofuranosyl)-5-iodouracil (FIAU), a thymidine nucleoside analog with activity against various herpesviruses and hepatitis B virus (HBV) in vitro and in vivo. Bacterial or herpes virus thymidine kinase (TK) considered to be a target of FIAU. Fialuridine I-124 is a positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) tracer that was developed for imaging of cells transfected with the herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV1) thymidine kinase reporter gene. This enzyme transfers a γ phosphate group fom ATP to the 5’ hydroxyl group of pyrimidine deoxynucleosides. The lipophilic tracer diffuses into the cell and is trapped in the cell with HSV1-TK activity, because the phosphorylated tracer cannot pass the plasma membrane. TK gene of bacteria was sufficiently similar to that of the viral TK of HSV1 and fialuridine I-124 could also be phosphorylated by the endogenous bacterial TK. Once phosphorylated by TK, fialuridine I-124 becomes trapped within bacteria and can be detected with positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT).
