Transcrocetinate (TSC) is a novel compound that offers promise as a treatment for conditions caused by hypoxia or ischemia. Unlike crocetin, it worked well in the more severe hemorrhagic shock model. Although many of the earlier studies with TSC involved the treatment of the ischemic conditions of hemorrhagic shock in both rats and swine, a few other studies involved treating purely hypoxic situations. One study showed that TSC was capable of promoting survival in rats breathing 10% oxygen. TSC also was able to increase arterial PO2 values in a rat model of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) caused by injection of oleic acid. The drug acts via a mechanism that has not been previously exploited in a pharmaceutical. TSC increases the rate of oxygen diffusion between the erythrocytes and the tissues by altering the 'structure' of water in blood plasma. It does this by causing additional hydrogen bonds to form among the water molecules. Animal toxicology studies have demonstrated that high levels of TSC are well-tolerated, and a Phase I clinical study has shown that TSC is also safe in humans. Delayed TSC treatment improves outcomes in experimental models of both ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke. TSC may be a safe and beneficial therapeutic modality for early stroke intervention, irrespective of the type of stroke involved. Transcrocetinate is in phase III clinical trial for the treatment of glioblastoma.

Dimetamfetamine is the N-methylated analog of methamphetamine, produces behavioral effects that are generally comparable to those of methamphetamine, but with reduced potency. It is often found as an impurity in preparations of methamphetamine. Dimetamfetamine itself is less neurotoxic than methamphetamine. Dimetamfetamine is metabolized to p-hydroxyl methamphetamine, p-hydroxyl dimetamfetamine, amphetamine, methamphetamine, and N,N-dimethylamphetamine N-oxide in humans, and flavin-containing monooxygenase-1 and CYP2D6 are mainly involved in the N-oxidation and N-demethylation of dimetamfetamine, respectively. Dimetamfetamine has also been used illegally in Korea, and the Korean government placed DMA on the official list of controlled substances on December 4, 2006.

Carbendazim is a broad-spectrum benzimidazole antifungal with potential antimitotic and antineoplastic activities widely used as a fungicide in agriculture and home gardening, and as an antihelminthic in veterinary medicine. As a fungicide, carbendazim used for controls Ascomycetes, Fungi Imperfecti, and Basidiomycetes on a wide variety of crops, including bananas, cereals, cotton, fruits, grapes, mushrooms, ornamentals, peanuts, sugarbeet, soybeans, tobacco, and vegetables. Carbendazim is a chemically stable and relatively persistent fungicide which only metabolizes to a limited extent in plants and in soil. The only detected metabolite is 2-aminobenzimidazole, which constitutes less than 5% of the total residues in leaves. Carbendazim may be anticipated to metabolize in the animal into hydroxylated analogues which may appear in meat and milk products. Carbendazim acts as a mitotic poison by altering tubulin binding and microtubule formation. This has been proposed as a possible mechanism of action for the developmental abnormalities seen in animal studies with high concentrations.

HaiHe Biopharma (Shanghai HaiHe Pharmaceutical) is developing simmitecan, an ester pro-drug of chimmitecan for the treatment of cancer. Simmitecan is in phase I development for solid tumours and colorectal cancer in China. Simmitecan (L-P) is a water-soluble ester prodrug of chimmitecan (L-2-Z) with potent anti-tumor activities in different experimental animals. Chimmitecan,a novel CPT derivative, exhibited potent antitumor activities both in vitro and in vivo by inhibiting topoisomerase I.
