Nicaraven is a hydroxyl radical scavenger with antivasospastic and neuroprotective effects. Chugai (the Japanese subsidiary of Roche) is developing nicaraven (Antevas), a water-soluble antioxidant, for the potential treatment of disorders caused by acute cerebrovascular diseases. A registration application was filed in April 1995, and in April 2002, nicaraven was still awaiting registration in Japan. By August 2002, Chugai had filed an NDA in Japan for the additional indication of subarachnoidal bleeding.
Mevastatin (compactin or ML-236B) is an inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase. This drug induces apoptosis and arrest of cancer cells in G1 phase. Therapeutic effects of mevastatin on serum level of lipoproteins and unbiquinone-10 in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia were investigated. However, that study was discontinued. In addition, mevastatin was investigated for the treatment of melanoma. It was suggested, that mevastatin was unlikely to prevent melanoma at standard doses. However, higher doses could have a role to play in adjuvant therapy by inhibiting growth and invasion of melanoma cells. Also was revealed, that mevastatin increased histone deacetylase inhibitor, LBH589-induced cell death in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells.

Hexacyclonic Acid (aka gevilon) has been clinically demonstrated to produce hypolipidemic effects. It has been investigated as a treatment for coronary heart disease, and hypertensive disease with severe lipid metabolic disturbances. Gevilon has been found to have a hypolipidemic effect in reducing the levels of total cholesterol, beta-cholesterol, triglycerides, increasing alpha-cholesterol levels and normalizing the atherogenicity coefficient; especially in patients with Type IIb dyslipoproteinemia.

8-Hydroxy-7-iodo-5-quinolinesulfonic acid (Ferron) showed fungistatic effect for Candida and for M. canis and T. mentagrophytes. Resotren is a chemical combination of chloroquine and iodohydroxyquinoline and, taken by mouth, is poorly absorbed and reaches the lower bowel in considerable concentration. Resotren is effective in both intestinal and extra-intestinal amoebiasis. Al-Ferron timed spectrophotometry assay is a basic method in the study on the formation of polynuclear hydroxyl aluminum species and their transformation laws in aqueous systems.

Hydroxytoluic acid is a long-acting derivative of salicylate with antilipidemic properties. It shows fibrinolytic activity in human plasma by activating the fibrinolytic system and has been shown to lower plasma free fatty acid, cholesterol levels, and to raise metabolic oxygen consumption.

D-Psicose (akaD-allulose) is a low energy monosaccharide found throughout nature in small quantities. t is a c-3 epimer of D-fructose and has 50% the sweetness of sucrose. Possible health benefits include improved insulin resistance, antioxidant enhancement and formation, and hypoglycemic controls. The use US-FDA lists psicose as generally recognized as safe (GRAS) and has approved its use as a food additive in a wide variety of products. Psicose is not generally metabolized and does not raise blood sugar levels above baseline after consumption. In addition, to use as a low-calorie sweetener, psicose has also been formally investigated as a dietary supplement to control obesity and pre-diabetic insulin insensitivities. Furthermore, D-psicose has shown the ability to inhibit the proliferation of ovarian cancer cells in vitro.

Racemetirosine is an orally active inhibitor of the enzyme tyrosine 3-monooxygenase, and consequently of the synthesis of catecholamine. At dosages of 600 to 3500mg daily, it is effective in controlling the hypertensive episodes and symptoms of catecholamine excess in phaeochromocytoma during preparation for surgery. Oral Racemetirosine is well absorbed and absorption appears constant in each individual over a wide dosage range. The drug is largely excreted via the kidneys, but extrarenal elimination has not been studied. Case reports on the clinical use of Racemetirosine in phaeochromocytoma indicate that the drug controls hypertension and symptoms of catecholamine excess in most patients during preparation for surgical removal of a tumor. In some cases, the addition of Racemetirosine to phenoxybenzamine plus propranolol has resulted in adequate control of symptoms previously unresponsive to the adrenergic blocking regimen. Drowsiness and sedation have been the most frequently reported side effects of Racemetirosine treatment.
