Lauroyl sarcosine is an ionic surfactant. Sodium salt of lauroyl sarcosine is widely used in the cosmetic industry in shampoos, body washes, facial washes, foundations, bath soaps, and detergents. Lauroyl sarcosine is used in noncoloring shampoos, bath soaps, and detergents. Besides its use in cosmetic industry, lauroyl sarcosinate is used in adhesives and as an additive in polymers (with a maximal concentration of 0.35% according to the FDA regulations).

OLETH-2 is a polyethylene glycol ether of Oleyl Alcohol. The number in the name is the average number of ethylene oxide units. OLETH-2 ethoxylated alcohol is derived from a vegetable based alcohol. It is an easy-to-use liquid form. OLETH-2 ethoxylated alcohol is an exceptional nonionic water in oil emulsifier and is recommended for a wide range of topical product and applications. In cosmetics and personal care products, the Oleth ingredients are used in the formulation of skin care products, makeup and hair care products.

Methylchloroisothiazolinone is an active ingredient in many preservatives marketed under various brand names. It is effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, yeast, and fungi. Pure Methylchloroisothiazolinone is not commercially available. Kathon CG contains a mixture of Methylisothiazolinone (MI) and Methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI) in ratio 3:1. Kathon was used in various rinse-off and leave-on formulations including hair products, shampoos, skin care products, bath products, eye and facial makeup, wet wipes and suntan products. The Commission envisages amending Annex V of the Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 to restrict the use of methylchloroisothiazolinone to rinse-off products, as suggested by the SCCS.

2-Methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one hydrochloride is an isothiazolinone based biocide and preservative used in personal care products. 2-Methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one is also used for controlling microbial growth in water-containing solution. It is used to study the effects of tyrosine phosphorylation on focal adhesion kinase (FAK) activity in the development of neural axons and dendrites. 2-Methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one hydrochloride (Methylisothiazolinone hydrochloride) is a common preservative used in industrial products, owing to its strong biocide effect. Contact allergy to Methylisothiazolinone hydrochloride has been reported in different occupations, including mechanics, hairdressers and healthcare workers.

Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) is used to help make plastics soft and flexible. It is used in shower curtains, raincoats, food wraps, bowls, car interiors, vinyl fabrics, floor tiles, and other products. Animal studies have reported developmental and reproductive effects from oral exposure. Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) is classified as a substance toxic to reproduction. No information is available on the carcinogenic effects of dibutyl phthalate in humans or animals. Treatment with dibutyl phthalate enhanced Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor mRNA expression, which was reflected by the increased AhR protein level. ERα, ERβ, and PPARγ antagonists stimulated DBP-induced caspase-3 and LDH activities. AhR is involved in DBP-induced apoptosis and neurotoxicity, while the ERs and PPARγ signaling pathways are impaired by the phthalate. In vitro test showed that DBP killed all Demodex mites within 1 hour. Dibutyl phthalate emulsion is promising to be developed as a safe, effective therapeutic medicament on demodicidosis.

Potassium bisulfite is a chemical compound with the chemical formula KHSO3. Potassium bisulphite is used for the preservation of colourless food materials such as fruit juices, squashes, apples and raw mango chutney. Potassium bisulfite solutions are used in a variety of different applications, including use as a food preservative (E228) to prevent spoilage and discoloration, as a preservative for pharmaceuticals (nebulizer solutions, parenterals, peritoneal dialysis solutions). It is also an antiseptic and sulfurous acid source, especially in brewing. Potassium bisulfite also functions as hair-waving/straightening agent. Potassium bisulfite is generally recognized as safe by FDA when used in accordance with good manufacturing or feeding practice, except that it is not used in meats or in food recognized as source of vitamin B1.

Methyl pyrrolidone (or N-methyl pyrrolidone or NMP) is a small molecule acetyl‐lysine mimetic compound with potent immunomodulatory and direct anti‐myeloma activity. NMP is nontoxic, stable and already in use as a solvent in biomedical applications. This compound is under investigation in clinical trial phase I for the treatment of multiple myeloma. The study will evaluate if the NMP can be safely administered to humans at doses, which induce measurable immunological and anti-tumor effects in patients with myeloma. In addition, NMP could be useful for bone fracture repairing. NMP has shown a protective role in osteoblast differentiation in response to hypoxia, and such protection was through inhibiting the NF-κB signaling. Experiments on rodents have revealed that the compound had a remarkable anti-osteoporotic ability preserving activity in the pulp-dentine complex and preventing jawbone loss. These effects made NMP a promising candidate for the preservation of the activity of the pulp-dentin complex and jawbone thickness in post-menopausal females.
