Clorprenaline is a β2-adrenergic receptor agonist. As a bronchodilator it has been used for the treatment of bronchial asthma, bronchitis and other respiratory diseases. It is a potential new lean meat-boosting feed additive because it can promote animal muscular mass growth and decrease fat accumulation.

Azidocillin is a narrow-spectrum, semisynthetic penicillin derivative with antibacterial activity towards Grain-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms, including Haemophilus influenze, against which it is as effective as ampicillin. Azidocillin binds to and inactivates penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall. Inactivation of PBPs interferes with the cross-linkage of peptidoglycan chains necessary for bacterial cell wall strength and rigidity. This interrupts bacterial cell wall synthesis and results in the weakening of the bacterial cell wall, eventually causing cell lysis. Azidocillin can be applied in the treatment of inflammation of upper airways, middle ear, sinuses, throat, larynx and palatine tonsils. The substance is excreted with urine in 50-70% in the unchan¬ged form. It binds to the blood plasma proteins in 84%, and its half-life period is 30 min. The side effects are similar as those of benzylpenicillin but occur less frequently.

Rimiterol is erythro-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-2-piperidyl-methanol hydrobromide, and is a catecholamine. It is a selective β2-adrenoreceptor agonist, but is not effective as a bronchodilator by the oral route of administration. Rimiterol is available at present as an aerosol, though preliminary studies suggest that it may be of value in the intravenous therapy of severe asthma.

Cefbuperazone (cefalosporin antibiotic) is marketed under the brand name Keiperazon by Kaken, and Tomiproan by Toyama, Japan. It is powder for injection 0.5 and 1 g/ampoule. It is indicated to treat infections with susceptible microorganisms. It has been proposed especially against Pseudomonas infections. Epicillin, a penicillin antibiotic, has never been approved in the USA, however, was studied for the treatment of childhood pneumonia, gonorrhea. Epicillin didn’t show any therapeutic advantages for parenteral treatment over ampicillin. By now, ampicillin remains the best-documented drug.

Penamecillin is a semi-synthetic beta-lactamase sensitive penicillin. The compound is the acetoxymethyl ester of benzylpenicillin, which is rapidly hydrolysed to the latter by the action of non-specific esterases.

Cefatrizine is used to treat a large variety of bacterial infections, such as respiratory tract, ear, skin and urinary tract infections. Cefatrizine is less effective against gram positive bacteria than first generation drugs. Antibiotics require constant drug level in body for therapeutic effect.

Tulobuterol is a long-acting beta2-adrenergic receptor agonist. Tulobuterol has almost no effects on blood pressure and heart rate and is highly selective for the tracheal muscle. It is indicated to improve symptoms such as respiratory distress caused by airway obstruction of bronchial asthma, bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and emphysema. Serious side effects detected were: tremor, palpitations and serum potassium level decrease.

Tiratricol (also known as TRIAC or triiodothyroacetic acid) is a thyroid hormone analogue, which has been studied since the 1950s. Tiratricol is used as a dietary supplement for thyroid problems including thyroid cancer. It is also used for increasing metabolic rate for weight loss, and reducing cellulite. In the US, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined that the product Triax (TRIAC, tiratricol) is not a dietary supplement but an unapproved new drug containing a powerful thyroid hormone, which may cause serious health consequences. The State of Missouri embargoed the product at its distributor (Syntrax) and the Utah-based manufacturer (Pharmatech) has agreed to stop distributing any product containing the ingredient TRIAC. The FDA has issued recalls for other tiratricol-containing products, including Tricana Metabolic Hormone Analogue, Tria-Cutz Thyroid Stimulator Dietary Supplement Capsules, and Sci-Fi-Tri-Cuts Dietary Supplement Capsules. Tiratricol is a prescription drug in France used for therapy of thyroid hormone resistance and therapy of thyroid cancer.

Zindotrine [MDL 257] is a phosphodiesterase inhibitor that was undergoing phase II clinical trials, with Aventis Pharma, as an antiasthmatic. However, no recent study has been reported. Hoechst Marion Roussel originally developed the drug. Efficacy and cardiovascular effects of a single 300 mg oral dose of zindotrine were compared with placebo in a two-period, double-blind, and crossover trial.
