Alanine is a non-essential aminoacid encoded by GCU, GCC, GCA, and GCG codons. Besides being a building block of proteins, alanine plays a key role in glucose-alanine cycle. Alanine is medically used as a dietary supplement for conditions such as fructose intolerance, muscle atrophy, low birth weight.
Histidine is an essential amino acid. L-histidine is converted to histamine by histidine decarboxylase, a pyridoxal 5'-phosphate-dependent enzyme. The copper(II)–l-histidine (1:2 complex at physiological pH) has been widely used in the treatment of Menkes disease (a genetic neurodegenerative disorder that leads to early death in the children due to impaired copper metabolism) and more recent use has been reported in the treatment of infantile hypertrophic cardioencephalomyopathy (a condition caused by mutations in SCO2, a cytochrome c oxidase assembly gene). CUSTODIOL HTK (Histidine-tryptophan-ketoglutarate) Solution is indicated for perfusion and flushing of donor kidneys, liver, and heart prior to removal from the donor or immediately after removal from the donor.

Chlorphentermine exerts anorectic properties. It is a synthetic amphetamine derivatc claimed to have none of the excitatory effects of the parenit substanice. PRE-SATE (Chlorphentermine HCl) is an effective appetite suppressant with a pattern of pharmacologic action substantially different from those of traditional anorexigenics. In providing dependable appetite control with appreciable loss of bodyweight, PRE-SATE does not significantly increase central nervous system (CNS), cardiorespiratory or metabolic activity.

Tyrosine (L-form) is a non-essential amino acid, which is primarily required for the protein synthesis. This amino acid is the precursor of dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine; therefore the lower concentration of tyrosine could be a peripheral marker of the hyperdopaminergic condition hypothesized to explain psychosis. Tyrosine supplements can improve cognition, increase energy, reduce anxiety, reduce depression, reduce levels of pain.

Conditions:

Guanethidine belongs to the general class of medicines called antihypertensives. It was used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is believed to act mainly by preventing the release of norepinephrine at nerve endings and causes depletion of norepinephrine in peripheral sympathetic nerve terminals as well as in tissues. It is taken up by norepinephrine transporters. It becomes concentrated in NE transmitter vesicles, replacing NE in these vesicles.
Phenprocoumon is the dominant anticoagulant in clinical use in several continental European countries. It used for the prevention and treatment of thromboembolic disease including venous thrombosis, thromboembolism, and pulmonary embolism as well as for the prevention of ischemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation. Phenprocoumon inhibits vitamin K reductase, resulting in depletion of the reduced form of vitamin K (vitamin KH2). Bleedings are the most important side -effects of oral anticoagulants. The gastrointestinal and the urinary tract are often affected; the most dangerous are intracerebral hemorrhages. A great number of drugs increase the risk of bleeding of oral anticoagulants. Enzyme inhibitors (e.g. allopurinol, androgens, cimetidine, ciprofloxacin, co-trimoxazole, certain anti-inflammatory agents, fibrates, imidazoles, macrolide antibiotics, etc.) reinforce, and enzyme inducers (e.g. barbiturates, rifampicin) and oral contraceptives reduce, the anticoagulant action.

Aminopterin is a synthetic derivative of pterins with antineoplastic and immunosuppressive properties. As a folate analog, aminopterin competes for the folate binding site of the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase, thereby blocking tetrahydrofolate synthesis, and resulting in depletion of nucleotide precursors and inhibition of DNA, RNA and protein synthesis. Aminopterin was marketed by Lederle Laboratories (Pearl River, New York) in the United States from 1953 to 1964 for the indication of pediatric leukemia. The closely related antifolate methotrexate was simultaneously marketed by the company during the same period. Aminopterin was discontinued by Lederle Laboratories in favor of methotrexate due to manufacturing difficulties of the former. During the period Aminopterin was marketed, the agent was used off-label to safely treat over 4,000 patients with psoriasis in the United States, producing dramatic clearing of lesions. The use of aminopterin in cancer treatment was supplanted in the 1950s by methotrexate due to the latter's better therapeutic index in a rodent tumor model. Now in a more pure preparation and supported by laboratory evidence of superior tumor cell uptake in vitro, aminopterin is being investigated in clinical trials in leukemia as a potentially superior antifolate to methotrexate.

Conditions:

Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that was first isolated from Streptomyces venezuelae in 1947. The drug was subsequently chemically synthesized. It has both a bacteriostatic and bactericidal effect; in the usual therapeutic concentrations it is bacteriostatic. Chloramphenicol is used for the treatment of serious gram-negative, gram-positive, and anaerobic infections. It is especially useful in the treatment of meningitis, typhoid fever, and cystic fibrosis. It should be reserved for infections for which other drugs are ineffective or contraindicated. Chloramphenicol, a small inhibitor of bacterial protein synthesis, is active against a variety of bacteria and readily enters the CSF. It has been used extensively in the last decades for the treatment of bacterial meningitis. In industrialized countries, chloramphenicol is restricted mostly to topical uses because of the risk of induction of aplastic anemia. However, it remains a valuable reserve antibiotic for patients with allergy to β-lactam antibiotics or with CNS infections caused by multiresistant pathogens.
