4,4’-Diamino-2,2’-stilbenedisulfonic acid (also known as amsonic acid) is used in the synthesis of dyes and optical brighteners or fluorescent whitening agents. Amsonic acid possesses estrogenic activity, and thus provided a possible mechanistic explanation for the complaints of impotency in factory workers exposed to this compound. In the 2-year feed studies on rodents, there was no evidence of carcinogenic activity of amsonic acid, in male or female F344/N rats receiving 12,500 or 25,000 ppm. In addition, there was no evidence of carcinogenic activity of this compound in male or female B6C3F1 mice receiving 6,250 or 12,500 ppm.

Methoxyphedrine (para-methoxymethcathinone, 4-methoxymethcathinone, bk-PMMA, PMMC, Methedrone, 4-MeOMC) is a phenethylamine, amphetamine, and cathinone derivative that acts as a triple reuptake/release/reversible monoamine oxidase inhibitor and used as a recreational drug. Methedrone has been found to be a potent serotonin transporter (SERT) and norepinephrine transporter (NET) inhibitor, but a weak dopamine transporter (DAT) inhibitor. Methedrone induces the transportation mediated release of NE, DA, and 5-HT from cells preloaded with monoamines making it a serotonin-norepinephrine-dopamine (SNDRA) releasing agent, also known as triple releasing agent (TRA), which is a common characteristic among drugs of abuse. The health risks associated with Methedrone are unknown but are expected to be similar to other cathinones. The deaths of two young men in southeast Sweden in 2009 were attributed to Methedrone overdose.

Racemethorphan is racemic mixture of Dextromethorphan and Levomethorphan. Racemethorphan is listed under the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs 1961 and is therefore listed in the United States as a Controlled Substance, specifically as a Narcotic in Schedule II. Dextromethorphan is a non-narcotic morphine derivative widely used as an antitussive. Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant in many over-the-counter cold and cough medicines. In 2010, the FDA approved the combination product dextromethorphan/quinidine for the treatment of pseudobulbar affect. Dextromethorphan suppresses the cough reflex by a direct action on the cough center in the medulla of the brain. Levomethorphan is an opioid analgesic of the morphinan family that has never been marketed.

m-Chlorophenylpiperazine (meta-chlorophenylpiperazine or mCPP) is a psychoactive substance, which is illegal in many countries but can be found on the black market. It induces endocrine, neurological and psychiatric effects. mCPP is a partial agonist at the 5-HT2C receptor but antagonized the 5-HT2B and 5-HT3 receptors. mCPP is also an active metabolite of the drug trazodone, which is used as an effective antidepressant drug with a broad therapeutic spectrum, including anxiolytic efficacy. It is known, that mCPP induces migraine attacks and that the decrease of food intake induced by the mCPP depends on its ability to act as a serotonin agonist is a brain.

Endothal (also known as Endothall), a herbicide for terrestrial and aquatic plants, is a potent, selective protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) inhibitor. It also inhibits protein phosphatase 1 (PP1). Endothall is considered safe in drinking water, but in case of consumption for a long period, it can cause stomach or intestinal problems.

Nutlins are cis-imidazoline analogs which inhibit the interaction between mdm2 and tumour suppressor p53. Inhibiting the interaction between mdm2 and p53 stabilizes p53, and is thought to selectively induce a growth-inhibiting state called senescence in cancer cells. These compounds are therefore thought to work best on tumors that contain normal or "wild-type" p53. Nutlin-3 does not induce the phosphorylation of p53 on key serine residues and reveals no difference in their sequence-specific DNA binding and ability to transactivate p53 target genes compared with phosphorylated p53 induced by the genotoxic drugs doxorubicin and etoposide, demonstrating that phosphorylation of p53 on key serines is dispensable for transcriptional activation and apoptosis.

Chlorogenic acid is the ester of caffeic acid and (-)-quinic acid. Chlorogenic acid is a naturally occurring plant metabolite and can be found with the related compounds cryptochlorgenic acid and neochlorogenic acid in the leaves of Hibiscus sabdariffa, coffee, potato, eggplant, peaches, and prunes. Chlorogenic acid has been investigated as a dietary supplement to improve glucose intolerant hypoglycemia and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. It has also been identified as a potential anticancer agent by reducing the expression of HIF-1a and Sphingosine Kinase-1. Chlorogenic acid was also identified as a neuraminidase blocker effective against influenza A virus (H1N1 and H3N2).

Norcodeine is the N-demethylated derivative of codeine. It has relatively little opioid activity in its own right, but is formed as a metabolite of codeine following ingestion. Codeine and its other major metabolites codeine-6-glucuronide and norcodeine have weak affinity to opioid μ-receptors.

Galactosamine is a hexosamine derived from galactose with the molecular formula C6H13NO5. A few amino sugars, including galactosamine, have been shown to kill tumors in the laboratory. It is unlikely to be used in cancer therapy, however. D-galactosamine is a hepatotoxic, or liver-damaging, agent. Researchers studying animal models of liver failure sometimes use D-galactosamine to induce liver damage. Galactosamine is also helpful for researchers studying agents that might protect the liver from damage.
