Androstenol (5α-androst-16-en-3α-ol), a pheromone that acts as a potent positive allosteric modulator of the GABA-A receptor. Androstenol was first isolated from boar testes, and several animal experiments suggest that androstenol is capable of reducing anxiety, as well as hippocampal epileptogenic activity. It was subsequently detected in humans, (primarily in males), in sweat, urine, plasma, and saliva. Androstenol is also shown to affect hormonal, behavioral and social responses in humans. In animals, androstenol has been found to produce anxiolytic-like, antidepressant-like and anticonvulsant effects.

3,7-Dimethyl-1-propargylxanthine (DMPX) is a selective A2 adenosine receptor antagonist, which is widely used to determine the role of adenosine receptors in different processes or in the development of diseases.

3,5-di-tert-butyl- 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde is metabolites of a food additive butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). It has less prominent radical-scavenging activity than butylated hydroxytoluene. As the anthropogenic pollutant, it was detected in human breast adipose tissues. 3,5-di-tert-butyl- 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde was found in essential oil of Sphaeranthus indicus and in the capsules of Asclepias physocarpa. It is used as a reagent in the synthesis of a series of quinolinone-chalcones, which have anti-parasitic activity and in the synthesis of thiazolo[3,2-b][1,2,4]triazole-6(5H)-one derivatives (a potent analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents).

Penicillic acid (PA) is a polyketide mycotoxin produced by several species of Aspergillus and Penicillium species showed antibacterial activity against various plant pathogenic bacteria and can be as a lead molecule for the development of synthetic agrochemicals to control plant bacterial diseases. In addition, PA induces single-strand DNA breaks and inhibits DNA synthesis, demonstrating mutagenic and cytotoxic effects. Penicillic acid irreversibly inhibits GDP-mannose dehydrogenase (DMG), an alginate synthesis enzyme, interrupting the committed step in alginate biosynthesis.

Fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) is widely used to attach a fluorescent label to proteins via the amine group. The isothiocyanate group reacts with amino terminal and primary amines in proteins. It has been used for the labeling of proteins including antibodies and lectins. Isomer I (Fluorescein 5-isothiocyanate) has the thiocyanate group on the 4 carbon of the benzene ring, whereas isomer II (Fluorescein 6-isothiocyanate) has the thiocyanate on the 5 carbon. The two isomers are indistinguishable spectrally, either by wavelength or intensity. Isomer I is more easily isolated in pure form, so is less expensive. This may explain why isomer I is more commonly used for labeling. For many purposes, however, the mixed isomers of FITC will be perfectly suitable.

Prostaglandin F1 alpha is a stable metabolite of prostacyclin, a powerful inhibitor of platelet aggregation as well as a potent vasodilator. Prostaglandin F1a is derived mainly from prostaglandin E1 and is metabolized to 6-keto prostaglandin F1a. It was shown, that the fluctuating prostaglandin F1 alpha levels were of clinical significance in the management of vasomotor tone and platelet function, common problems in the care and the prevention of hemorrhage in critically ill infants.
