Mifamurtide (liposomal muramyl tripeptide phosphatidylethanolamine; trade name Mepact) is an immunomodulator with antitumor effects that appear to be mediated via activation of monocytes and macrophages. After intravenous administration, mifamurtide is selectively phagocytosed by monocytes and macrophages. Cytosolic Mifamurtide specifically interacts with nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain 2 (NOD2) receptor that induces nuclear factor (NF)-kB activation and is implicated in innate immune defense. Activation of monocyte-mediated tumoricidal function was observed following in vivo treatment with mifamurtide in phase I/II clinical trials. Intravenous administration of mifamurtide inhibited tumor growth and increased survival in rodent models of lung and liver metastasis. In a large, randomized, open-label, multicenter, phase III trial, the addition of adjuvant (postoperative) mifamurtide to three- or four-drug combination chemotherapy (doxorubicin, cisplatin, and high-dose methotrexate with, or without, ifosfamide) was associated with a statistically significant improvement in overall survival in patients with newly diagnosed, high-grade, non-metastatic, resectable osteosarcoma. The pattern of outcome was generally similar in a small cohort of patients with metastatic disease who were enrolled in this trial. Mifamurtide is generally well tolerated; adverse events attributed to administration of the drug include chills, fever, headache, nausea, and myalgias. In the EU, mifamurtide is indicated in children, adolescents, and young adults for the treatment of high-grade, resectable, non-metastatic osteosarcoma after macroscopically complete surgical resection; it is administered by intravenous infusion in conjunction with postoperative multiagent chemotherapy. In the US, mifamurtide is currently an investigational agent that holds orphan drug status for the treatment of osteosarcoma.

Dimetofrine is a selective agonist of post-synaptic a1-adrenergic receptors. The drug was investigated as a cardiostimulant to treat orthostatic hypotension. Clinical investigation showed that dimetofrine relieves asthenia, paleness, drowsiness, fatigue, headache and other symptoms associated with hypotension. It was observed, that in acidic conditions similar to conditions in the stomach, dimetofrine is able to react with nitrites with the formation of highly mutagenic compound 2,6-dimethoxy-1,4-benzoquinone (DMBQ).

Ubenimex is a dipeptide, which specificallyinhibits the activity of leukotriene A4 hydrolase, aminopeptidase B and leucine aminopeptidase of the cell membrane. The drug was isolated from Streptomyces oliooreticuli in 1976 in Nippon Kayaku, Japan and approved for the treatment of acute non-lymphocytic leukemia under the name Bestatin. In the USA the drug is currentlu in Phase II for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension and lymphedema.

Indium is a rare, soft silvery-white metal. It is used in some manufacturing process, butt here is no known biological role for indium in the human body.
Although there are claims that indium increases hormone production, stimulates immune system function, and increases energy, there is no reliable scientific evidence to support such claims.
In vitro, indium-III salts appears to have cytotoxic activity against melanoma. Indium cation (Indium-III), when complexed with 8-hydroxyquinoline (oxine), has been employed as a radioactive platelet label for thrombus imaging in animals and man. The short half-life (2.8 d) and high yield of gamma photons of 111In make it ideal for in vitro counting and external imaging. Indium In 111 ProstaScint (Capromab Pendetide) is indicated as a diagnostic imaging agent in newly-diagnosed patients with biopsy-proven prostate cancer, thought to be clinically-localized after standard diagnostic evaluation (eg chest x-ray, bone scan, CT scan, or MRI), who are at high-risk for pelvic lymph node metastases. It is not indicated for patients who are not at high risk. Indium In 111 ProstaScint is also indicated as a diagnostic imaging agent in post-prostatectomy patients with a rising PSA and a negative or equivocal standard metastatic evaluation in whom there is a high clinical suspicion of occult metastatic disease.

Ethybenzatropine (Ponalid) is an anticholinergic and antihistaminergic drug. It was used as an antiparkinsonian agent. A significant increase in the duration of action of levodopa-induced improvement in parkinsonian symptoms was observed following the administration of ethybenzatropine. Ethybenzatropine also improved, or tended to improve the duration and seventy of onset and end-of-dose levodopa-induced dyskinesias. Thus when levodopa is administered together with etybenzatropine, its length of action on parkinsonian symptoms is prolonged.
