Epicillin, a penicillin antibiotic, has never been approved in the USA, however, was studied for the treatment of childhood pneumonia, gonorrhea. Epicillin didn’t show any therapeutic advantages for parenteral treatment over ampicillin. By now, ampicillin remains the best-documented drug.

AZASTENE is an inhibitor of ovarian and adrenal steroidogenesis which can be used as an interceptive agent. Its action leads to an acute, short-term, reversible progesterone withdrawal. The reduction of progesterone levels is brought about by competitive inhibition of ovarian 3beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase activity.

Rolitetracycline nitrate is an antibiotic formed by N-aminomethylation of the carboxamide group of tetracycline. Rolitetracycline passively diffuses through porin channels in the bacterial membrane and reversibly binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit, preventing binding of tRNA to the mRNA-ribosome complex, and thus interfering with protein synthesis. It is formulated for intravenous or intramuscular injections and is used in cases requiring high concentrations or when oral administration is impractical. In combinations with chloramphenicol and colistin, it is used as the eye drops for the treatment of external eye infections such as catarrhal conjunctivitis, purulent, trachoma, blepharitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, bacterial keratitis, septic corneal ulcers.

Prednimustine is chlorambucil ester of prednisolone. Prednimustine is a cytostatic agent. Prednimustine is active against a wide variety of experimental tumors both in vivo and in vitro. In many of these tumor systems, prednimustine exhibits distinct advantages over a mixture of its constituents, chlorambucil and prednisolone. In vitro, a higher cell kill is obtained, and in vivo, at doses that are equally effective, prednimustine is less toxic. It has been used in the treatment of various malignancies, including chronic lymphatic leukaemia and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. It has also been tested for use in the treatment of breast cancer
Aescin, the major active principle from Aesculus hippocastanum (Hippocastanaceae) the horse chestnut tree, has shown satisfactory evidence for a clinically significant activity in chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), haemorrhoids and post-operative oedema. In one controlled trial aescin was shown to be as effective as compression therapy as an alternative to medical treatment for CVI. The therapeutic benefit is well supported by a number of experimental investigations in different animal models, indicative of clearcut anti-oedematous, anti-inflammatory and venotonic properties, mainly related to the molecular mechanism of the agent, allowing improved entry of ions into channels, thus raising venous tension in both in vitro and in vivo conditions. Other mechanisms, i.e. release of PGF2 from veins, antagonism to 5-HT and histamine, reduced catabolism of tissue mucopolysaccharides, further underline the wide ranging mechanisms of the therapeutic activity of aescin. Aescin exists in two forms, α and β. β-aescin (b-escin) appears to be the active component of the mixture and is the molecular form present in major available pharmaceutical products. Beta-aescin has cytotoxic activity toward human colon adenocarcinoma cell lines.
The phenylpyrazosteroid cortivazol is a selective agonist ligand for the glucocorticoid receptor (GR), a steroid receptor member of the nuclear receptor superfamily of transcription factors. Cortivazol is an apoptotic, anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive agent that has been used in the treatment of diskogenic radiculopathy, back pain, osteoarthritis and acute childhood lymphoblastic leukemia. Cortivazol has potent antileukemic activity in childhood ALL. Its activity is related to cell cycle arrest and induction of apoptosis. Cortivazol (Altim) is indicated in rheumatological diseases: - In intra-articular injection: inflammatory arthritis, advanced osteoarthritis. - In periarticular injection: tendinitis, bursitis. - In injection of soft tissue: talalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome, Dupuytren’s contracture. - In epidural injection: radiculalgia

Penamecillin is a semi-synthetic beta-lactamase sensitive penicillin. The compound is the acetoxymethyl ester of benzylpenicillin, which is rapidly hydrolysed to the latter by the action of non-specific esterases.

Fluclorolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid which was never marketed. The acetonide cyclic ketal of fluclorolone, fluclorolone acetonide is a corticosteroid for topical use on the skin. Fluclorolone is a glucocorticoid receptor agonist. It was used for the treatment of atopic dermatitis, varicose eczema and psoriasis.

Fluocortin butyl, a corticosteroid, is available in Germany for nasal application to improve symptoms and signs of perennial rhinitis. This drug is also used in Italy under the brand name Vaspit for the treatment of skin diseases such as dermatitis, eczema, erythema, first-degree burns, and insect bites. Once the cellular environment is reached, the fluocortin butyl induces the expression of protein lipocortin 1, an inhibitor of the enzyme phospholipase A2, an initiator of a cascade of molecular events that leads to the formation of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins, and prostacyclins.
