Phenethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC) presents in cruciferous vegetables which have been shown to decrease the risk of various types of malignancies. PEITC targets multiple proteins to suppress various cancer-promoting mechanisms such as cell proliferation, progression and metastasis. PEITC induces apoptosis in human colon cancer HT-29 cells, prostate cancer cells, and osteogenic sarcoma U-2 OS cells. Unique to prostate cancer is that PEITC downregulates the transcriptional factor Sp1, a regulator of AR expression. PEITC suppresses 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butoneinduced pulmonary neoplasia in A/J mouse lung, exhibits cancer chemopreventive activity in rat and reduces azoxymethane-induced colonic aberrant crypt foci formation. PEITC appears to be a promising agent for cancer therapy and is already under clinical trials for leukemia and lung cancer.

Eltanolone (pregnanolone) is an endogenous neuro active steroid that is biosynthesized from progesterone. It is a positive allosteric modulator of the GABAA receptor, as well as a negative allosteric modulator of the glycine receptor. There is strong evidence that it is involved in the pathophysiology of premenstrual syndrome, catamenial epilepsy, major depression, and stress-sensitive brain disorders and is known to have sedative, anxiolytic, anesthetic, and anticonvulsant effects. It was investigated for clinical use as a general (intravenous) anesthetic. It produced unwanted side effects such as convulsions on occasion, and for that reason was not marketed. Pregnanolone possesses neuroprotective and neurotrophic properties thus has been through a number of clinical trials including for treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI), Alzheimer disease, cognitive impairment and fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia syndrome.

3-Aminopropionitrile (beta-aminopropionitrile, BAPN) is a poisonous substance found in Lathyrus spp. (wild peas), for example, Lathyrus hirsutus (wild winter pea), sometimes sown with grasses to provide early-spring grazing. BAPN is a specific and irreversible inhibitor of LOX activity. It has been shown to reduce body weight gain and improve the metabolic profile in diet-induced obesity in rats. The administration of beta-aminopropionitrile has been proposed for pharmacological control of unwanted scar tissue in human beings. BAPN has been shown to have preventive effect in the development of fibrosis by decreasing tissue damage in an experimental model of corrosive esophagitis in rats. BAPN is FDA approved for the treatment of tendinitis of the superficial digital flexor tendon (SDFT) in horses where there is sonographic evidence of fiber tearing.

Etiprednol dicloacetate (BNP-166; ethyl-17alpha-dichloroacetoxy-11beta-hydroxyandrosta-1,4-diene-3-one-17beta-carboxylate) is a new soft steroid. The compound proved to be a dissociated glucocorticoid, showing a reduction in transactivating activity while preserving transrepressive abilities. The compound effectively decreased cytokine production in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated lymphocytes and attenuated lectin-induced proliferation of blood mononuclear cells in tissue culture. The significant local effect of the compound will very likely be accompanied by a drastically reduced systemic activity indicating an encouraging selectivity of the pharmacological action of etiprednol dicloacetate. Etiprednol dicloacetate had been in a clinical trial for the treatment of allergic rhinitis, asthma and Crohn's disease. However, development has been discontinued.

Triamcinolone acetonide- 21-dihydrogen phosphate is the long-acting derivative of a synthetic glucocorticoid triamcinolone. Triamcinolone acetonide has eight times more potency than prednisolone. Triamcinolone acetonide- 21-dihydrogen phosphate used for intravenous injection. It is supposed to be hydrolyzed rapidly in the body to form the free corticoid alcohol.
