β-phenylethylamine (2-phenylethylamine) is a small amine containing alkaloid synonymous with phenethylamine and the acronym PEA; in the human body it has a neuromodulator/neurotransmitter role and is known as a trace amine due to its low quantity relative to other bioactive amino acids. PEA was characterized as a substrate for type B monoamine oxidase. PEA functions by activating trace amine receptors (including TAAR1 and TAAR2) thereby regulating monoamine turnover. Ring-substituted phenethylamines, commonly known as 2Cs, are designer drugs that are emerging as new drugs of abuse. PEA administration may be therapeutic in selected depressed patients.

Jervine (11-Ketocyclopamine) is a naturally occuring steroidal alkaloid is derived from the Veratrum plant species. Jervine is a teratogen implicated in birth defects when consumed by animals during a certain period of their gestation. Over the Hedgehog signaling pathway Jervine effectively inhibit the tumor growth using three human tumor xenograft models including lung cancer, pancreatic cancer and basal cell carcinoma. Jervine has the potential to advance to a treatment for different tumors.

Songorine is a diterpenoid alkaloid which can be isolated from the genus Aconitum. Songorin has demonstrated anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiolytic and the ability to promote wound healing. The Anti-anxiolytic properties appear to be linked to the agonistic activity of the Dopamine D2 receptor as shown in rat hippocampal slices. The wound healing effect is the result of songorine's ability to stimulate the development of mesenchymal progenitor cells, although the exact mechanism of action remains unclear.
