Cefsulodin is a third-generation of cephalosporin antibiotic with a narrow spectrum of activity. It has a specific activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Cefsulodin’s targets are bacterial penicillin binding proteins. Drug is indicated for the treatment of infections of lower respiratory tract, skin and skin structures, urinary tract, bone and joint; treatment of gynecological infections; treatment of intra-abdominal infections; treatment of septicemia and CNS infections including meningitis caused by susceptible strains of specific microorganisms. Cefsulodin appears to be well tolerated and relatively free of any significant toxicity except for nausea and vomiting.

Cefprozil is a 2nd generation cephalosporin that is FDA approved for the treatment of mild to moderate infections of upper respiratory tract, lower respiratory tract, and uncomplicated skin and skin-structure infections. Cefprozil, like the penicillins, is a beta-lactam antibiotic. By binding to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, it inhibits the third and last stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Common adverse reactions include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, abdominal pain and vaginitis. Nephrotoxicity has been reported following concomitant administration of aminoglycoside antibiotics and cephalosporin antibiotics. Concomitant administration of probenecid doubled the AUC for cefprozil.

Ramoplanin is a glycolipodepsipeptide antibiotic obtained from the fermentation of Actinoplanes sp. ATCC 33076 that exhibits activity against clinically important multi-drug-resistant, Gram-positive pathogens including vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and vancomycin-intermediate resistant Clostridium difficile. Ramoplanin was first isolated as a complex of three closely related components A1, A2, and A3. Preclinical studies have also demonstrated that ramoplanin exerts a rapid bactericidal effect on S. aureus biofilms and that a clinical vancomycin-resistant S. aureus strain containing the vanA gene was susceptible to ramoplanin. Ramoplanin blocks bacterial cell wall biosynthesis by interfering with peptidoglycan production. Ramoplanin inhibits the N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase-catalysed conversion of lipid intermediate I to lipid intermediate II, a step that occurs before the transglycosylation and transpeptidation reactions. Ramoplanin’s mechanism of action is distinct from that of glycopeptides. Unlike glycopeptides, ramoplanin does not complex with the D-Ala–D-Ala sequence of cell wall precursors. Ramoplanin is being developed for the targeted prophylaxis of recently treated patients with C. difficile infection (CDI) at high risk for infection relapse. Mivacurium chloride (Mivacron) is a new benzylisoquinolinium choline-like diester neuromuscular blocking drug with an onset of action at equipotent doses that is comparable to atracurium and vecuronium but slower than succinylcholine. MIVACRON (a mixture of three stereoisomers) binds competitively to cholinergic receptors on the
motor end-plate to antagonize the action of acetylcholine, resulting in a block of neuromuscular
transmission. This action is antagonized by acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, such as neostigmine. MIVACRON is a short-acting neuromuscular blocking agent indicated for inpatients and outpatients,
as an adjunct to general anesthesia, to facilitate tracheal intubation and to provide skeletal muscle
relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventilation.

Cephradine is a semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic. Cephradine is active against the following organisms in vitro: Group A beta-hemolytic streptococci; Staphylococci, including coagulase-positive, coagulase-negative, and penicillinase-producing strains; Streptococcus pneumoniae (formerly Diplococcus pneumoniae); Escherichia coli; Proteus mirabilis; Klebsiella species; Hemophilus influenza. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. It is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections (e.g., skin, ear, respiratory and urinary tract infections). Pseudomembranous colitis has been reported in patients receiving cephradine both orally and intravenously. Diarrhea generally starts 1 to 16 days after starting cephradine therapy. Gastrointestinal side effects have included nausea, vomiting. Hypersensitivity reactions have included rash, urticaria, pruritus, and joint pain. Bacteriostats may interfere with the bactericidal action of cephalosporins in acute infection; other agents, e.g., aminoglycosides, colistin, polymyxins, vancomycin, may increase the possibility of nephrotoxicity.

Cetrimide is a quaternary ammonium compound. Cetrimide was first introduced as a combined cleanser and skin antiseptic by Barnes (1942). Cetrimide combines excellent detergent properties and minimal toxicity with a useful antiseptic action. Cetrimide affects membrane permeability allowing ‘leaking’ of essential cell constituents leading to cell death. This medication is a skin antiseptic and disinfectant prescribed for seborrhoeic dermatitis and wound cleansing. The cream has a bactericidal activity against gram-positive bacteria and incompatible with soaps and other anionic surfactants.

Synthetic human secretin displays equivalent biological activity and properties as naturally occurring secretin. Acetate salt of synthetic secretin was marketed under the name ChiRhoStim. ChiRhoStim is indicated for the stimulation of pancreatic secretions, including bicarbonate, to aid in the diagnosis of pancreatic exocrine dysfunction, for the gastrin secretion to aid in the diagnosis of gastrinoma. ChiRhoStim is also used for the pancreatic secretions to facilitate the identification of the ampulla of Vater and accessory papilla during endoscopic, retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). When secretin binds to secretin receptors on pancreatic duct cells it opens cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) channels, leading to secretion of bicarbonate-rich-pancreatic fluid.
