Cytochalasin B is a cell-permeable alkaloid, isolated from a fungus Helminthosporium dematioideum. Cytochalasin B is an inhibitor of actin polymerization through binding to the fast-growing (barbed) end of F-actin filaments. Cytochalasin is used in studies of actin polymerization, cell division, and cell movement. The compound also inhibits glucose transporters GLUT1,3 and 4 and was investigated in a clinical trial to prevent restenosis after angioplasty surgery.

Class (Stereo):
CHEMICAL (RACEMIC)

Furmethoxadone was developed as an antibacterial agent and was studied as an anthelmintic. Information about the current use of this compound is not available.

Elzasonan (CP 448187) is a serotonin 1B/1D receptor antagonist. Elzasonan was primarily metabolized via oxidative N‐demethylation, N‐oxidation, and aryl hydroxylation. Pfizer was developing elzasonan for the treatment of anxiety and affective disorders however development has been discontinued.

Meteneprost (9-deoxo-16, 16-dimethyl-9-methylene PGE2) is a prostaglandin E2 analog. It exerts uterine-stimulating potency: meteneprost is able to both stimulate uterine contractions and dilate the cervical canal. It was studied as an abortifacient in early pregnancy.

Nifurimide, a 5-nitrofuran derivative, is an antibacterial agent. It was used for controlling Salmonella choleraesuis in swine. The mode of action of 5-nitrofuran analogues is based on red-ox biotransformation.

CHEMICAL (ACHIRAL)

Clodanolene is a skeletal muscle contraction antagonist, closely related to dantrolene sodium. The drug has no measurable direct effect on the peripheral or central nervous systems. In a mouse of muscle spasticity (Straub-tail mouse), clodanolene induced skeletal muscle relaxation more effectively than neuromuscular blocking agents, local anesthetics, or centrally-acting muscle relaxants. Indirect evidence indicates clodanolene acts on caffeine-sensitive calcium stores in the muscle cells.

Pinacyanol iodide is a fluorescent cationic cyanine dye used to stain biological specimens. It is the obstetric diagnostic aid. The mechanism of tracing with pinacyanol iodide dyes is based on their lipid solubility. Pinacyanol iodide dyes are more efficacious than classical tracing methodologies especially during early stages of development and consequently have been used to reveal the spatiotemporal patterns of axonal development in different species. The unique properties of the pinacyanol iodide dye tracing method have opened up new avenues for tracing connections in human postmortem specimens. Pinacyanol iodide dye tracing is incompatible with alcohol fixation and paraffin embedding of tissue.

Rose Bengal lactone is a polyhalogenated derivative of Fluorescein. Rose Bengal lactone is a dye compound described to produce cell membrane damage. Rose Bengal lactone and other Fluorescein derivatives are also described to modulate the function of ATP-sensitive K+ channels. Rose bengal lactone reacts readily with bases so treatment with triethylamine immediately yields the Rose Bengal salt.

CHEMICAL (ACHIRAL)

Leniquinsin acts as a vasodilator and shows antihypertensive effects. It is a potent rat brain phosphodiesterase inhibitor. Its hypotensive effect would seem to be due to alpha-adrenergic blockade and to a direct action on smooth muscle.

CHEMICAL (ACHIRAL)

Conditions:

Nifuraldezone is an antibacterial compound. It completely mimics the radiosensitizing effect of molecular oxygen in hypoxic mammalian cells in vitro at concentrations in tissue culture medium which showed no measurable acute toxicity.
