on as chelating agents in cosmetics. Pentasodium Pentetate is readily soluble in water, but the corresponding free acid is not. Pentasodium Pentetate is used in almost 400 cosmetic products over a wide range of product categories, although it is mostly used in hair dyes and colors at use concentrations of 0.1% to 1.0%. Pentetic Acid and Pentasodium Pentetate inactivate metallic ions, such as calcium and magnesium, to maintain stability and appearance of cosmetic products. The inactivation of other metallic ions such as iron or copper also helps to prevent the oxidative deterioration of cosmetics and personal care products.

Succimer is an analogue of dimercaprol, and has replaced dimercaprol as one of the main antidotes used in the management of poisoning by lead and other heavy metals. The advantages of succimer are that it is effective by oral administration because it is soluble in water, it is well-tolerated, has relatively low toxicity and can be given at the same time as iron supplements to treat iron deficiency anaemia. It does not cause significant increase in urinary excretion of essential minerals unlike the other widelyused lead chelating agent, sodium calcium EDTA.

Conditions:
Molybdenum-99 (99Mo, half-life = 66 h) is a parent radionuclide of a diagnostic nuclear isotope. It decays in technetium-99 m (half-life = 6 h), which is used in over 30 million procedures per year around the world. Between 95 and 98 percent of Mo-99 is currently being produced using highly enriched uranium (HEU) targets. Other medical isotopes such as iodine-131 (I-131) and xenon-133 (Xe-133) are by-products of the Mo-99 production process and will be sufficiently available if Mo-99 is available.
