Batefenterol, previously known as GSK961081, a bifunctional muscarinic (M2 and M3 receptors) antagonist β2-agonist that is developed for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The drug has successfully completed phase II clinical trials with clinically significant improvements in lung function. No new or unexpected safety signals were observed in this COPD population. The conclusion from the trial was following that batefenterol 300 µg might represent the optimal dose for Phase III studies.

LY377604 is a human β3-adrenergic receptor agonist and β1- and β2-adrenergic receptor antagonist with no sympathomimetic activity at the β1- and β2-adrenergic receptors. Combination of LY377604 and a norepinephrine-serotonin uptake inhibitor (sibutramine) was studied in the treatment of obesity. LY377604 would ameliorate side effect of sibutramine treatment (increase in blood pressure and heart rate due to activation of the sympathetic nervous system).

Epinine or deoxyepinephrine is an active form of Ibopamine, which is used as a cardiovascular agent in congestive heart failure. Epinine is a stimulant of alpha-adrenoceptor activities: alpha-1 and alpha-2. Experiments on pig’s eyes have shown that epinine can be a promising candidate substance for intraoperative (e.g., cataract surgery) intracameral use in humans.

The increase in muscle size has been seen in previous animal studies when cimaterol is used. Experts in the field are saying that the increased nitrogen retention, that is known to cause by cimaterol, maybe the reason behind the muscle gain. Colterol is a beta-2 adrenoreceptor agonist. Bitolterol, a diester prodrug of colterol, was marketed by Elan Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of reversible bronchospasm associated with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases.

Bedoradrine (also known as KUR-1246 or MN-221), an ultra selective beta 2-adrenoceptor agonist, that participated in phase II clinical trials as an adjunct to standard therapy in the management of patients with acute exacerbation of asthma who did not respond to standard therapy. In addition, the drug was involved in trials for the treatment of preterm labor in obstetrical practice. Bedoradrine is also was studied in phase I of clinical trials for its use for treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, however, the efficacy for this disease was uncertain.

Levisoprenaline (l-isoproterenol) is beta1- and beta2-adrenoreceptor agonist. In Japan, continuous inhalation of levisoprenaline is a recommended treatment for pediatric patients with acute severe exacerbation. Compared with salbutamol, l-isoproterenol reduced modified pulmonary index score more rapidly. But in most countries do not recommend continuous inhalation of l-isoproterenol to treat pediatric patients with acute severe exacerbation of asthma due to worsening asthma control. Levisoprenaline was used to cause experimental chronic heart failure in rats.

Deterenol is a beta-adrenoceptor agonist. It is an effective nonmydriatic and nonmiotic hypotensive agent, which can be used in antiglaucoma treatment.
