Efaproxiral is a synthetic, small molecule, radiation-sensitising agent being developed by Allos Therapeutics primarily for the treatment of cancer. It works by binding and allosterically stabilising deoxyhaemoglobin in hypoxic regions of tumour tissue. This increases oxygen uptake of the tumour tissue and restores its sensitivity to radiation therapy, making therapy potentially more successful. But no benefit was seen for efaproxiral in phase III clinical trials. The only serious adverse effect detected was hypoxaemia. Efaproxiral is explicitly excluded from the 2012 World Anti-Doping Agency list of Prohibited Substances and is explicitly included in the Prohibited Methods section M1 as a forbidden procedure to alter the oxygen-haemoglobin dissociation curve in order to allosterically modify haemoglobin.

Lazabemide is a reversible and selective inhibitor of monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) that was under clinical development against Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and as an aid to smoking cessation. The development of the drug was discontinued due to liver toxicity.

Potassium is needed to maintain good health. When potassium level falls below 3.5 mmol/L, Hypokalemia is diagnosed. Astodrimer, also known as SPL7013, a microbicide developed by Starpharm. This drug has been used in phase III clinical trials for the treatment and prevention of Bacterial Vaginosis. Starpharma conducts a meeting with US FDA related to potential approval of astodrimer in Bacterial vaginosis. In addition, SPL7013, participated in phase II clinical trials against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and herpes simplex virus 2 (genital herpes, HSV-2). It is known that astodrimer binds tightly to R5 gp120 in the gp120-CD4 complex, thus preventing the accrual of the requisite number of gp120-CD4 complexes across the virus-cell interface, thereby blocking virus entry.
