Quadrol, N,N,N',N'-tetrakis(2-hydroxypropyl)ethylenediamine, also known as edetol, is a registered trademark of BASF Corporation. Quadrol has proven to be an excellent cross-linking agent and catalyst for use in polyurethane coatings and rigid foams. The four hydroxyl groups in quadrol give multiple cross-linking sites and the two tertiary nitrogen atoms provide catalysis for the reaction. In addition, was studied the biological activity of quadrol: this compound promoted in vivo collagen synthesis and was effective as a stimulator of wound healing in diabetic and non-diabetic animals. Quadrol exists as a mixture of four unique diastereomers, each of which may display differences in biological activity.

Cetrimide is a quaternary ammonium compound. Cetrimide was first introduced as a combined cleanser and skin antiseptic by Barnes (1942). Cetrimide combines excellent detergent properties and minimal toxicity with a useful antiseptic action. Cetrimide affects membrane permeability allowing ‘leaking’ of essential cell constituents leading to cell death. This medication is a skin antiseptic and disinfectant prescribed for seborrhoeic dermatitis and wound cleansing. The cream has a bactericidal activity against gram-positive bacteria and incompatible with soaps and other anionic surfactants.
