Propoxycarbazone-Sodium (also known as BAY MKH 6561) is asulfonylaminocarbonyltriazolinone derivative patented by German multinational pharmaceutical and life sciences company Bayer A.-G. as herbicide Propoxycarbazone inhibits acetolactate synthase (ALS), and has selectivity on spring, winter, and durum varieties. The spectrum of control includes several species of monocot and dicot weeds at the application rates of 30 to 45 g/ha. Bromus control is the primary target since existing herbicides have limited timing, selectivity, and use patterns which reduce usefulness. Propoxycarbazone applied postemergence between the 1- to 2-leaf stage and shoot elongation has provided economic control of the following Bromus species: B. tectorum, B. secalinus, B. mollis, B. rigidus, and B. japonicus. Side effects, and sometimes control, was also noted on Aegilops tauschii for which there is no selective control outside genetically altered wheat cultivars. Broadleaf control was obtained primarily on the mustard family, including species in the genera Sisymbrium, Brassica, Descurainia, Chorispora, Camelina, Capsella, and Thlaspi. Propoxycarbazone provides control for adequate weed spectrum, however, considerations of resistance management, difficult and diverse weed pressure, and extended growing seasons will sometimes necessitate the use of sequential herbicides or mix partners.

NCT00414999: Phase 1 Interventional Completed Macular Degeneration

CHEMICAL (ACHIRAL)

AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION (AMD), PROLIFERATIVE DIABETIC RETINOPATHY (PDR) AND DIABETIC MACULAR EDEMA (DME) are collectively characterized by VEGF mediated retinal leakage, angiogenesis, and an underlying inflammatory process. TargeGen's TG100801 is designed to inhibit a select group of kinases involved in those three processes. Currently approved drug based therapy for macular degeneration requires repeated injection into the eye. TG100801 is the first topically applied, VEGFR)/Src kinase inhibitor to advance into the clinic for the treatment of Age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy. The formation of new blood vessels (angiogenesis), blood vessel leakage, and inflammation contribute to the progression of the eye disease, which is the leading cause of irreversible, severe loss of vision in people 55 years of age and older in the developed world. In cell based assays, following topical instillation, TG100572, the active drug produced by conversion of TG100801 as it penetrates the eye, was shown to induce apoptosis in proliferating endothelial cells responsible for neovasculariztion and to inhibit inflammatory-mediated processes as measured by endotoxin-induced nitric oxide release in vitro.

Cetaben has been identified as an anti-atherosclerotic hypolipidaemic substance. Cetaben is a unique, PPARα-independent peroxisome proliferator with hypolipidemic activity that inhibits cholesterol synthesis in the human hepatoma Hep-G2 cells resulting in reversible changes in Golgi morphology. Cetaben represents an exceptional type of peroxisome proliferator, specifically affecting peroxisomes, without having a negative influence on the processes of peroxisome biogenesis. Cetaben raised only the peroxisomal enzymes, acyl-CoA oxidase, glycerone-phosphate acyltransferase, D-amino-acid oxidase, catalase, and urate oxidase. Cetaben sodium has being shown to be an antiatherosclerotic agent.

Pirodavir (R77975) (ethyl 4-[2-(1-[6-methyl-3-pyridazinyl]-4-piperidinyl)ethoxy]benzoate) and its predecessor (R61837) belong to a series of pyridazine analogues developed by the Janssen Research Foundation. Compared to R61837, pirodavir was 500-fold more potent as an antiviral in vitro, inhibiting 80% of 100 rhinovirus serotypes tested at concentration of 0.064 mg/mL or less. Pirodavir acts at an early stage of the viral replication cycle (up to 40 min after infection) and reduces the yield of selected rhinoviruses 1,000- to 100,000-fold in a single round of replication. The mode of action appears to be serotype specific, since pirodavir was able to inhibit the adsorption of human rhinovirus 9 but not that of human rhinovirus 1A. Pirodavir is a novel capsid-binding antipicornavirus agent with potent in vitro activity against both group A and group B rhinovirus serotypes.

Tienoxolol is a benzoic acid derivative patented by Centre d'Activite et de Recherche Pharmaceutique Industrielle Biologique et Medicale as β-sympatholytic and diuretic. Tienoxolol acts as a beta-adrenergic receptor antagonist shows potent diuretic and natriuretic activity and, besides that anti-hypertension activity in preclinical models. In clinical trials, Tienoxolol significantly and dose-dependently reduced exercise-induced tachycardia. This effect started 1 h after drug administration, peaked between 4 h and 6 h and lasted at least 12 h.
