Targets:

Fenamole is a muscle relaxant. It is effectively inhibits muscle spasms at good levels for a four hours and at significant levels for six hours. Clinical benefits were derived in patients with spasticity-spasm for periods up to 24 hours after a single oral dose. Fenamole is relatively free of adverse side effects particularly in the central nervous system. It is a potent copper chelator. It was once investigated as a potential antirheumatic agent in man.

Phenylacetate is the ester of a phenol and acetic acid. It is a metabolite of anticancer drug phenylbutyrate (PB), natural neurotransmitter phenylethylamine. Naturally, it is an odorant found in strawberries, passion fruit, and black tea. Phenylacetate level in urine was used as a marker for the diagnosis of some forms of unipolar major depressive disorders. Phenylacetate is used as a tool substrate to study esterase activity in the blood of patients in clinical studies of the effect of nutritional supplements on paraoxonase-1 levels.

Butacetin is an anilide derivative with potent analgesic and antipyretic activity. Butacetin shows marked analgesic and anti-inflammatory potencies in the mouse abdominal constriction assay and the carrageenan-induced rat paw edema. Butacetin has the advantage of demonstrating much lower gastro-toxicity than currently available NSAIDs.

Ampyrone (4-Aminoantipyrine or AAP) is a metabolite of aminophenazone and is an aromatic substance with analgesic, antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties. When combined with the antineoplastic agents, ampyrone decreased their genotoxic, mutagenic, apoptotic, and phagocytic effects. However, ampyrone usually produces side effects, such as the risk of agranulocytosis. Although ampyrone is scarcely ever administered as an analgesic because of the potential side effects, as a raw material, it is mostly used to produce ampyrone derivatives, which have better biological activities. In addition, it is used as a reagent for biochemical reactions producing peroxides or phenols and can also be used to detect phenols in the environment. Exposure to ampyrone could induce changes in the enzyme catalase structure and function.

Metanil yellow is a yellow azo dye. Due to its toxic effect on the liver, brain and reproductive organs, the use of metanil yellow in the food industry is not permitted. Despite its status, metanil yellow was found in 16.4% of the sampled food products in India. It was used to color bakery goods, cereals, beverages, candies, gelatin, and numerous other commodities. Metanil yellow is used as an adulterant for curcumin in the turmeric powder.
