The organophosphate compound Naftalofos is an anthelmintic drug. In Australia it is approved for veterinary use. Naftalofos has been used for many years to control nematodes of livestock. Naftalofos boluses are used against nematodes of cattle. Naphthalophos (36.6 to 51.2 mg/kg) was also 93% efficient against the multiple resistant strains of Trichostrongylus colubriformis in sheep. Naphthalophos showed efficacy against Haemonchus contortus (> 99 %),Trichostrongylus axei (99.3 %), Teladorsagia circumcincta (97.8 %), Trichostrongylus colubriformis (99.2 %), Cooperia punctata/curticei/pectinata (90.4 %), Nematodirus spathiger (89.2 %) and Oesophagostomum venulosum/columbianum (93.7 %). Naphthalophos represents an effective therapeutic alternative for incorporation into worm control programmes.

Diphenan is p-benzyl-phenyl-carbamate. Various workers have reported that diphenan will rid children of oxyurids and it has been claimed to be nontoxic and tasteless and to have the advantage of being a vermicide as opposed to a vermifuge. An attempt has been made to assess the efficacy of diphenan as a vermicide. Diphenan was given far in excess of the normal dosage. Subsequent examnation showed few cures and these mostly in lightly infested children. The condition of many was unchanged and that of some worse after treatment. No toxic reactions were encountered. Moreover, diphenan was found to have no detectable anthelmintic effect when given in high dosage in the treatment of enterobiasis.

Plafibride is an acyl derivative of morpholinomethylurea (MMU) with clofibric acid. Plafibride is hypolipemic, platelet aggregation inhibiting agent. Plafibride did not act on the arachidonic acid metabolism. Plafibride inhibited the activity of 3',5'-cyclic AMP-phosphodiesterase, which is one of the principal mechanisms of inhibition of platelet aggregation. In the rat, plafibride inhibited significantly the spontaneously formed circulating platelet aggregates. In vitro plafibride appeared as an effective antiaggregant agent although less powerful than morpholinomethylurea, one of its presumed metabolites. The most evident secondary effects of plafibride were: a certain sedation, as a light tranquilizing agent, a hypothermic effect when it was administered at high doses, a certain beta-blocking and antiarrhythmic activity probably due to its local anesthetic action. All the side effects appeared at high doses, much higher than the therapeutic ones.

Doxenitoin is a phenytoin-like structure, the only difference being reduction of the carbonyl at the 2-position to a methylene group. This drug has significant anticonvulsant potency. It was developed as an antiepileptic agent.
