Conditions:
Cocarboxylase is the coenzyme form of Vitamin B1 present in many animal tissues. Thiamine pyrophosphate (cocarboxylase) is the active form of thiamine, and it serves as a cofactor for several enzymes involved primarily in carbohydrate catabolism. Pancreatic cells obtain thiamin from their surroundings and enzymatically convert it into thiamin pyrophosphate (TPP) in the cytoplasm; TPP is then taken up by mitochondria via a specific carrier the mitochondrial TPP transporter (MTPPT; product of the SLC25A19 gene).

Targets:
Piperine is a simple and pungent alkaloid found in the seeds of black pepper (Piper nigrum). Following its isolation and full characterization, the biological properties of piperine have been extensively studied, and piperine-like derivatives have shown an interesting range of pharmacological activities. Piperine is currently paving its way to become a privileged scaffold for the development of bioactive compounds with therapeutic application in multiple human diseases. In particular, piperine derivatives were shown to modulate the activity of several targets related to neurological disorders, including epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, depression and pain related disorders. Moreover, the efflux pump inhibitory ability of piperine and its analogues tackles important drug resistance mechanisms and may improve the clinical efficacy of antibiotic and anticancer drugs. Piperine has been found to have immunomodulatory, anti-oxidant, anti-asthmatic, anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer, and anti-amoebic properties.

Prezatide is a tripeptide molecule consisiting of lysine, glycine and histidine, also known as GHK (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine), that forms a complex with copper ions. Prezatide is used in cosmetic products (skin and hair) and is known help wound healing. Prezatide increases the synthesis and deposition of type I collagen and glycosaminoglycan. It is thought to play a role in the modulation of tissue remodeling by increases the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2, as well as tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinases-1 and -2. Prezatide has antioxidant activity due to its ability to supply copper for superoxide dismutase and anti-inflammatory ability due to the blockage the of iron (Fe2+) release during injury.

Sodium threonate (threonic acid) is a major breakdown product of ascorbic acid used as a food additive. It is formed in insignificant amounts from ascorbic acid used as a technological aid in the food industry. When administered orally to guinea-pigs (100 mg/kg body weight) for periods of 4 or 28 days, it produced a significant fall in the ascorbic acid concentration of certain organs but was without effect on other physiological and biochemical characteristics. The lifespan of scorbutic guinea-pigs was significantly reduced by dietary threonic acid (100 mg/kg body weight). The results indicate that threonic acid may modify the metabolism of ascorbic acid in guinea-pigs. Threonic acid is a normal component is aqeous humour and blood. Threonic acid is a substrate of L-threonate 3-dehydrogenase in ascorbate and aldarate metabolism pathway.
