Description
Curator's Comment: Description was created based on several sources, including https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3255245 | https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3140710 | https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23418450 | http://www.abcam.com/dpta-nonoate-dipropylenetriamine-nonoate-ab145198.html

Norspermidine (1,7-diamino-4-azaheptane or dipropylenetriamine) is a structural homologue of the natural polyamine spermidine. Norspermidine and its metal complexes exert antineoplastic properties. Dipropylenetriamine NONOate is used as a donor of nitric oxide.

Originator

Curator's Comment: In 1962, Johson and Markham first reported the isolation of norspermidine (1,7-diamino-4-azaheptane or dipropylenetriamine) from turnip yellow mosaic virus and several other purified plant viruses, in which it appeared to be associated with the viral RNA.

Curator's Comment: Norspermidine (Nspd), a homologue of spermidine, had significant antitumor activity against L1210 leukemia, 3LL carcinoma and EL4 lymphoma in mice.

Route of Administration: Unknown
High-dose norspermidine (1,7-diamino-4-azaheptane or dipropylenetriamine) had bactericide effect on P. aeruginosa, and norspermidine began to inhibit biofilm formation and eradicate 24-h mature biofilm at concentration of 0.1 and 1 mmol/L, respectively, probably by preventing cell-surface attachment, inhibiting swimming motility, and downregulating QS-related genes expression.
