Trimoprostil is a synthetic prostaglandin E2 derivative and prostanoid receptor agonist, with potential gastric secretion inhibitor and antiulcerogenic activity. It has been shown to reduce hydrogen ion secretion, to enhance gastric bicarbonate secretion and to reduce aspirin-induced gastric mucosal injury. In contrast to many E prostaglandins, it does not lower the tone of the lower oesophageal sphincter. Trimoprostil was well tolerated and more effective than placebo in the treatment of mild to moderate symptomatic reflux oesophagitis. It may be protective to human squamous oesophageal mucosa. Trimoprostil was not as effective as cimetidine in the treatment of duodenal ulcer.

Cyclindole is a tryptamine derivative in which the aminoethyl side-chain has been cyclized. Clinical trials of the drug have demonstrated antidepressant activity. The drug also possesses neuroleptic properties and acts as an antagonist of the D2 receptor.

Iodoantipyrine I-131 is a radiopharmaceutical nonsteroid anti-inflammatory compound evaluated for coronary blood flow measure and as a total body water marker. In vivo results suggested that soon after injection of 4-I131 AP (Iodoantipyrine I-131) in rats , significant and increasing quantities of the I131 tracer were detached from the antipyrine molecule in a form which is more diffusible than 4-I131 AP. Evidence for a similar phenomenon was seen in other species. There were qualitative differences in the behavior of antipyrine and 4-I131 AP when injected in animals, and these may invalidate the use of 4-I131 AP as a substitute for antipyrine in studies of body composition.

FILIPIN is a complex of polyene macrolides obtained from Streptomyces filipinensis. The complex consists of four components: filipin I (4%), II (25%), III (53%), and IV (18%). Filipin III alters membrane function by interfering with membrane sterols, inhibits mitochondrial respiration, and is proposed as an antifungal agent. It is widely used as a marker for detection and quantification of cholesterol in cellular membranes.

KETAZOCINE, a benzomorphan derivative, is a kappa opioid receptor agonist. It is used in opioid receptor research.

Porfiromycin is an N-methyl derivative of the antineoplastic antibiotic mitomycin-C initially isolated from Streptomyces ardus. Upon administration, the drug undergoes chemical or enzymatic reduction, followed by spontaneous loss of the tertiary methoxy (hydroxyl) group and formation of an aromatic indole system. Thus activated, porfiromycin generates oxygen radicals and alkylates DNA, producing interstrand cross-links and single-strand breaks at guanosine residues. Porfiromycin was tested in phase III for head and neck carcinoma, however, its development was terminated.
