N-acetyl-S-farnesyl-L-cysteine (acetyl farnesylcysteine), a modulator of G protein and G-protein coupled receptor signaling, inhibits neutrophil chemotaxis and other inflammatory responses in cell-based assays, is a synthetic substrate for the isoprenylated protein methyltransferase (also known as S-adenosylmethionine-dependent methyltransferase). It was shown, that the topical N-acetyl-S-farnesyl-L-cysteine inhibited mouse skin inflammation and might exert its anti-inflammatory effects through the inhibition of chemokine production by stimulated endothelial cells.

Rhamnose is a naturally occurring deoxy sugar which can be classified as either a methyl-pentose or a 6-deoxy-hexose. Unlike most other naturally occurring sugars rhamnose is found in nature as L-rhamnose. Rhamnose can be isolated from plants such as Buckthorn, poison sumac, and those of the genus Uncaria. It is also produced by microalgae from class Bacillariophyceae. Throughout nature, rhamnose is commonly bound to other sugars. It is a common glycone component of glycosides in many plants. It also forms a component of the outer cell membrane in acid-fast bacteria of the genus Mycobaterium, including tuberculosis.
Oxothiazolidinecarboxylic Acid (L-2-oxothiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid, OTC) was currently undergoing evaluation in a Phase II clinical trial. It is suggested that an ideal drug may be an antisense oligonucleotide that blocks the expression of glycolate oxidase, a key enzyme in hepatic oxalate synthesis.
