Echinatin is a component of Glycyrrhiza echinata, which have been used for years in Chinese traditional medicine. It displays antioxidant properties and anti-inflammatory activities. Echinatin exerts a protective effect against I/R-induced myocardial injury on hearts (as shown on the isolated rat hearts).

The hearts of the rats in the treatment groups were stabilized for 30 min and then treated with a Krebs-Henseleit buffer solution containing Echinatin (0.1, 0.5, and 2.5 ug/mL). Global ischemia and reperfusion were established for 45 min.
