Endoxifen, also known as N-desmethyl-4-hydroxytamoxifen, is active metabolites of tamoxifen. This metabolite exhibits a 100-fold higher binding affinity to the estrogen receptor (ER) and are more effective in suppressing cell proliferation than tamoxifen. In humans, the conversion from tamoxifen to endoxifen is predominant. Endoxifenis is an orally active, selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that was developed for the treatment of estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer. In addition, this drug possesses antimanic properties, what can be used in the treatment of patients with bipolar I disorder (BPD I).

Equilin is one of the active components of estrogens used in estrogen replacement therapy. This compound is used as a sulfate conjugate in drug Premarin. Equili is an inhibitor of 17beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (17beta-HSD1), a key enzyme responsible for elevated levels of 17beta-estradiol (E2) in breast tumor tissues. Thus equilin reduce the E2 levels in breast tissues and hence the reduce risk of estrogen-dependent breast cancer.

Androsterone, a neurosteroid, acts as a positive allosteric modulator of GABA(A) receptors, that can cross into the brain and could have effects on brain function. It was discovered, that the association of beta subunits with alpha subunits GABA(A) receptor affects the sensitivity of glycine receptors to androsterone. In spite of that, androsteron is considered as an inactive metabolite of testosterone. In addition, was studied that androsterone possessed anticonvulsant properties. Although of low potency, the androsterone was present in high abundance and was able to represent endogenous modulator of seizure susceptibility.
