Silver Iodate is an odorless, white, practically insoluble in water, solid crystalline salt, with the formula AgIO3. Silver iodate can be obtained by reacting silver nitrate (AgNO3) with sodium iodate or potassium iodate. Silver iodate has been utilized as an oxidant to transform a,c-biladienes into porphyrins via cyclization. Silver iodate has been applied toward the multistep synthesis of meso- and β-substituted chlorin building blocks. Silver iodate is used to detect traces of chlorides in blood.
