Fonturacetam, also known as Phenylpiracetam, is marketed in Russia as Carphedon and Phenotropil. It is one of the first ever nootropic drugs and originally discovered in Russia. Fonturacetam acts on most neurotransmitter systems and has been used for its cognitive and physical enhancing properties, and also as an antidepressant.

CNS Activity

Curator's Comment: Acting as an antidepressant and memory enhancer in rat models.

Approved Use

Approved in Russia as a nootropic. Phenotropil activates the integrative brain activity, consolidates memory, increases concentration and mental work, improves learning ability, increases the transmission of information between cerebral hemispheres, raises the resistance of brain tissues to hypoxia and poisonous actions. Has a positive effect on metabolism and blood circulation of the brain. It is used to treat metabolic and vascular cerebral disorders, mental function disorders, depression, obesity, convulsions. The stimulating effect of Phenotropil provides an improvement in physical performance, coordination, and stamina.

PRIMARY Phenylpiracetam is one of the most peculiar and stimulating nootropics currently available, it has effects very similar to stacking Adderall and piracetam. Due to its added Phenyl group, it influences dopamine receptors in the brain, and therefore carries much the same effect. It also targets memory, focus and overall brain health, phenylpiraceatm is bar none one of my favorite nootropics for these reasons, it is available in 90 capsules as well as a cheaper sampler pack version.

PRIMARY A small number of low-scale clinical studies have shown possible links between prescription of phenylpiracetam and improvement in a number of encephalopathic conditions, including lesions of cerebral blood pathways, traumatic brain injury and certain types of glioma. Phenylpiracetam reverses the depressant effects of the benzodiazepine diazepam, increases operant behavior, inhibits post-rotational nystagmus, prevents retrograde amnesia, and has anticonvulsant properties. Phenylpiracetam is typically prescribed as a general stimulant or to increase tolerance to extreme temperatures and stress.
