Description

Potassium silver cyanide (potassium argentocyanide) is a white solid used in silver plating, as a bactericide, and in the manufacture of antiseptics. Silver potassium cyanide is used in jewelry for chemical gilding & buffing. This substance can also be used in gold mining for the extraction of metal from ores, where sodium cyanide is more predominantly used.

Curator's Comment: Laboured respiration occurred in rats exposed at a lower dose of 0.8 mg cyanide/kg body weight per day when administered potassium silver cyanide for 90 days. The only sign of toxicity observed in male rats exposed by gavage to potassium silver cyanide (2.6 mg cyanide/kg body weight per day) for 90 days was an increase in testis weight http://www.who.int/ipcs/publications/cicad/en/cicad61.pdf
