ANTHRAMYCIN, a member of the pyrolobenzodiazepine family, is an antineoplastic antibiotic derived from a thermophilic actinomycete Streptomyces refuineus var. thermotolerans (NRRL 3143). It binds covalently to DNA, thereby inhibiting replication and transcription processes.
