AZX100, a synthetic 24 amino acid peptide, is a cell-permeant peptide that mimics HSP20, bypassing the signaling pathways leading to smooth muscle relaxation. This mechanism of action is particularly important in certain patients, such as asthmatics. AZX100 possesses a mechanism of action called filamentous actin disassembly. AZX100 was studied by Capstone for the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis, the prevention of hypertrophic and keloid scarring and intimal hyperplasia. However, in 2014, Capstone terminated the license agreement for AZX100 intellectual property and returned all interest in and rights to the AZX100 intellectual property to the Licensor (AzTE).

AZX100 Drug Product 3 or 10 mg or placebo (saline) was administered intradermally at each of three trocar sites on each patient 9 ± 2 days and 21 ± 2 days after arthroscopic surgery. The three trocar sites (anterior, lateral, and posterior sides of the shoulder) were randomized to receive the same dose of study agent for both dose administrations.
