Description
Curator's Comment: description was created based on several sources, including: http://www.preciseformulation.com/nadcc-tablets-general-applications.html | http://akvopedia.org/wiki/Chlorine_(NaDCC) | https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/drugInfo.cfm?setid=b345ae6a-0b36-45c7-b31e-2a15508a2ef5 | https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20064989

Troclosene is chlorinated hydroxytriazine and it is used as a source of free available chlorine, in the form of hypochlorous acid, for the disinfection of water. It kills bacteria, bacterial spores, cysts, algae, fungi, protozoa and virus and are especially lethal to Entamoeba histolytica. Troclosene kills mastitis-causing organisms. It is now widely available for household water treatment. It does not prevent diarrhea but improved water quality.

Viral suspensions were prepared containing 10(4)-10(5) syncitial forming units ml-1 in 0.9% saline or 0.9% saline containing 10% v/v plasma to simulate clean and dirty conditions. A syncitial inhibition assay on C8166 lymphoblastoid line was used to determine viral titre. Results indicate that satisfactory disinfection (3-4 log reduction in 2 min) can be achieved using Troclosene and NaOCl at concentrations of 50 ppm and 2500 ppm available chlorine (AvCl2) for clean and soiled conditions respectively. For treatment of blood spillages, the addition of Troclosene and NaOCl solutions (10,000 ppm) to equal volumes of contaminated blood (giving a final AvCl2 concentration of 5000 ppm of blood) was sufficient to produce total kill within 2 min.
