Description

Amylmetacresol (AMC) is an antiseptic used to treat infections of the mouth and throat. It is used as an active pharmaceutical ingredient in Strepsils, Gorpils and Lorsept throat lozenges. It was shown that the presence of amylmetacresol, dichloro-benzylalcohol and lidocaine block of inward sodium current.

In Vitro Use Guide
It was investigated the effects of amylmetacresol on voltage-operated neuronal (Na(V)1.2) sodium channels heterologously expressed in HEK 293 cells in vitro. Amylmetacresol reversibly blocked depolarisation-induced whole-cell sodium inward currents. The half-maximum blocking concentrations (EC(50)) at -150 mV was 53.6 and microM
